Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people of the society say that in this modern and digital era stage plays and cinemas are no longer crucial as people can watch all the entertainments they want online but other individual thought that theatres

and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. I partaily stand with both argument.

On the one hand ,watching entertainment online has many advantages for everyday life. firstly it is very cheap because people can watch any webseries, movie and drama without purchasing any expensive tickets. For instance app like Netflix ,Amazone prime give access to thousands of shows on mobile or laptop anywhere. Another piont to be consider people can pause or restart the vedio whenever they want ,which save more time. Therefore many people feel that going to physicsl cinemas is a waste of money money and time when everthing is available on internet.

On the other hand ,cinemas and theatres are still nessary for local economies and cultures. Going to cinemas gives us a unique exprience because of the big screen and loud sound systems also watching a movie with big crowd creat afun and exciting enviroment. Furthermore it create more job opportunities for local people such as tickets seller ,cleaner and security staff. poeple usally go to resturants and cofee shop after watching movie which help to increase local shops.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, though the position is not fully developed. The essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the discussion. While the ideas regarding economic and cultural benefits are relevant, they are presented in a somewhat list-like fashion without sufficient elaboration or examples. The conclusion is entirely missing, which is a significant omission for a discussion essay. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed explanations and ensure you include a clear concluding paragraph that synthesizes your views.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'Furthermore' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the paragraphing is underdeveloped, and the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical. The lack of a concluding paragraph disrupts the overall logical progression of the response. Referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure your essay follows a standard structure: introduction, body paragraphs, and a clear conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'piont', 'vedio', 'physicsl', 'nessary', 'exprience', 'creat', 'afun', 'enviroment', 'poeple', 'usally', 'resturants', and 'cofee'. These errors are frequent and occasionally distracting. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'economically' and 'culturally', the overall range is limited. Focus on proofreading your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms for common words like 'cheap' or 'important'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay relies primarily on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors, such as 'other individual thought that' (should be 'others think that') and 'it create more job opportunities' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. The frequent grammatical slips and the limited variety of sentence structures suggest a need for more practice with complex grammar, such as relative clauses and conditional sentences, while ensuring subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage.
