Student answer (Band 6.0)

Recently there is been a debate between some people that in the modern era along with digital technology theres no need to go out of your way to watch movies in cinema that is also an older technology. you can simply watch it online meanwhile another one says cinemas are very still very relevant and part of our culture . In this essay i will be sharing my view on why cinemas should still exist and why they are an important part of our society.

Cinemas have been existed for a long period of time one could argue that it is an outdated technology for example the traditional projectors that are being used does not provide the best quality and viewing experience that you can get at good tv with advanced technology now a days. and its an hassle to go out of your way to specifially go to a cinema which can be very time consuming compared to just easily watching movie at your phone or a tv at a fraction of a cost aswell .

Cinemas carry lots of nostalgia for many people since it has been a part of our culture.. theres still a huge community of people that enjoy going to the cinema and they are emotionally attached to it . because it is a place where they can socialise with their friends and also it brings a sense a community as well for example, being a marvel fan watching marvel movies together in a theatre filled with other marvel fans aswell brings that these are my type of people feeling.

I strongly believe cinemas must and should always stay on our society since they bring lots of people together and everyone coming to the cinema postponing their busy lifes to have a joyfull experience with your own people can truly be an amazing moment which everyone thrives for.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the economic and cultural importance of cinemas, the economic aspect is largely ignored in the body paragraphs, focusing instead on social and emotional benefits. To reach a higher band, ensure that all parts of the prompt are explored with equal depth. The introduction is a bit informal and lacks a clear thesis statement that outlines the structure of the essay, which affects the overall task response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite basic and sometimes repetitive. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas between and within sentences. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, which disrupts the flow of the text. Improving the variety of transition signals would significantly enhance the logical progression of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on common phrases like 'good tv' and 'go out of your way' repeatedly. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'cinemas have been existed' and 'joyfull experience'. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to the film industry, technology, and social trends. While your meaning is clear throughout, the range of vocabulary is not yet sufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the essay, particularly with verb tenses and sentence structure. Examples include 'Recently there is been a debate', 'cinemas have been existed', and 'projectors that are being used does not provide'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader. You rely mostly on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors in agreement or word order. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy significantly.
