Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, there has been growing debate about whether cinemas and theatres are important or not for entertainment purposes. Some individuals argue that in the digital era, theatres and cinemas are not essential for entertainment because people can watch all they want online. Others argue that these entertainment sources are important both economic and cultural. Although individuals can watch all the entertainment online, I believe that cinemas and theaters are still important for strong economy and cultural perspective.
On the other hand, online entertainment provides convenience and access to a wide range of movies. People can watch movies after spending hectic day in office without paying money on buying cinemas tickets. Online platforms also provide a wide range of streaming for your favorite shows. For instance, individuals can watch their favorite shows and movies online without paying too much on cinemas tickets and can easily access to a wide range of movies.
On the other hand, some individuals believe that theaters and cinemas are still important because it provides economic and cultural advantages. Theaters and cinemas are not simply way of entertainment. This is because they promote cultural values and traditions. Another main point is that theaters also provide economic benefits because they create employment and generate income. For instance, a successful cinema can provide employment for ticket sellers, and food-service workers while also generating income for nearby restaurants and shops.
In conclusion, some individuals argue that cinemas and theaters are no longer important due to online entertainment, while others argue that these sources are essential for both economically and culturally. Online entertainment provides convenience and variety, whereas cinemas provide employment and generate income.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, including both views and a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of online streaming versus the economic and cultural benefits of physical venues. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the economic argument is supported by a brief example of employment, but it could be expanded further to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay, though the conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented in the body paragraphs. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, but more depth in the supporting arguments would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand' and 'For instance', though the use of 'On the other hand' at the start of both body paragraphs is repetitive and slightly confusing, as the second paragraph is not contrasting with the first in the way the transition suggests. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly rather than relying on a mechanical structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is sufficient for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'hectic day' and 'essential', but the range is somewhat limited. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'economic and cultural' instead of 'economic and cultural reasons' or 'economically and culturally'. Additionally, the phrase 'paying money on buying cinemas tickets' is slightly unnatural. Expanding the range of vocabulary and focusing on more precise collocations would help improve the score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' cinemas), prepositions ('access to a wide range'), and word forms ('important both economic and cultural'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'Theaters and cinemas are not simply way of entertainment.' While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures and ensuring greater accuracy in basic grammar would be beneficial.
