Student answer (Band 6.0)

Although steaming services allow people to watch all sorts of entertainment conveniently anywhere. However, cinemas and live theaters offers an immersive communal experience. Majority of people contended that in this digitalized world theater and cinemas are no longer essential, entertainment can be streamed online. While others maintained that cinema and live performances plays a significant role in cultural and economical values. This essay will discuss both view points before presenting my opinion in favor of those who believes that theaters and cinemas are still crucial.

On the one hand, individuals who argues that traditional cinemas and theaters are no longer need, as rapid advancement of digital entertainment. As streaming services provide accessibility to verity of platforms free of cost and conveniently not only on handy smart devices people also have smart high-define screens in form of LEDs at their homes, where they can simply enjoy better sound quality, comfort, and privacy free of cost . These are the primary reasons why many consumers feel that visiting a commercial cinema is an unnecessary expense. Consequently, the high costs of tickets, concessions, and travel have led many to conclude that traditional venues are no longer essential daily entertainment choices.

On the other hand, proponents argue that these cultural institutes can play a critical role in preserving art, history and economy. Furthermore, these foster a sense of community engagement which can not be replaced by individual digital screens. Theater in particular, provides an unforgettable experience of live performance which emphasizes storytelling, acting, emotions.

Taking everything into consideration, while modern technologies provide reliable alternatives, I firmly believe that cinema and theaters remains irreplaceable.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph provides specific reasons for the decline of cinemas (cost, convenience, technology), which is well-supported. The second body paragraph, while relevant, is less developed; it touches on cultural and economic value but lacks specific examples or deeper analysis to fully justify why these venues remain 'irreplaceable' beyond the mention of 'storytelling' and 'acting'. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the argument are balanced in terms of depth and supporting evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, there are some issues with sentence-level cohesion. For instance, the opening sentence is a sentence fragment ('Although steaming services...'), and the transition between the first and second sentences in the introduction is awkward. While the overall progression is clear, the mechanical nature of some transitions and minor referencing errors prevent a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'immersive communal experience' and 'proponents'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'verity of platforms' (likely meaning 'variety') and 'economical values' (where 'economic' would be more precise). Additionally, there is some repetition of basic terms like 'entertainment' and 'cinemas'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that less common vocabulary is used accurately in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('cinemas and live theaters offers', 'others maintained that... plays', 'theaters and cinemas remains') and punctuation errors, such as the sentence fragment in the introduction. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction limit the score. Increasing the accuracy of subject-verb agreement and ensuring all sentences are complete would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
