Student answer (Band 5.0)

People love to watch movies in their leisure time specifically on weekends . In addition, some watch movies in theatre while some love to watch online on their gadgets like mobile phone and laptop. However their purpose is same to entertain themselves. although in my opinion people watch movies in theatre and cinemas as still very beneficial even in the digital age due to one can have outing and get himself relax. Furthermore, watch movies in cinemas help you avail more opportunities to make new connections with whom one can can plan other various activities in leisure time. Where as, a person watching movie in theatre can also take his kids with him to explore cinemas, watch cartoon movies. For instance when ever I get bore I book a cinema ticket to watch along my friends which refresh my me mentally. While watching movie online is also not a bad idea. As many working people get tired all the weekend they better use online amenity watching movies in home with family which would not him too much money for cinema tickets. For instance , when I was student I could not buy tickets so I chose the most convenient choice for me to watch movie online rather than going out and spend money, while I can utilise the amenity of watch movie online. Therefore if any body can afford the ticket price for watch movie in theatre his experience will memorable. However, those who can not afford cinema ticket he better watch movie online on big screen this will also provide him a touch of cinema.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the task. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention economic and cultural aspects, the points are not fully explored or supported with depth. For instance, the argument regarding 'making new connections' is mentioned but not elaborated upon in a way that demonstrates a clear understanding of the cultural or economic significance of cinemas. The essay tends to focus more on personal preference rather than the broader societal or economic implications requested by the prompt. To improve, ensure each point is supported by a clear explanation or a more detailed example.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear paragraph structure, as it is presented as one large block of text. This makes it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of your argument. While you use some cohesive devices like 'In addition', 'However', and 'Furthermore', they are sometimes used mechanically or incorrectly. The transition between ideas is often abrupt, and the lack of distinct paragraphs hinders the logical flow of the essay. To improve, you should organize your response into at least four paragraphs: an introduction, two body paragraphs (one for each viewpoint), and a conclusion. This will help structure your ideas more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You use phrases like 'watch movies' and 'amenity' (which is used incorrectly here) repeatedly. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'get himself relax' instead of 'relax' or 'get himself relaxed', and 'not him too much money' instead of 'not cost him too much money'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary, including less common collocations and more precise terminology related to the topic of entertainment and economics.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'watch movies in cinemas help you'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, such as 'For instance when ever I get bore I book a cinema ticket to watch along my friends which refresh my me mentally.' The use of complex structures is limited and often results in errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect prepositions.
