Student answer (Band 5.5)

According to my opinion I will not agree that in the digital world the theatres and cinemas are no longer important as people can all the entertainment they want online.

This is because watching cinemas in the theatres will definitely give us good experience and every person will surely enjoy the film. Theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. This is because cinemas in the theatres are an emotion to the people of every country.

There is a chance where all the movie or film can be seen in online. But many prefer theatres because they give a good joy and many fans fight for their ideals and support their own ideals. All these fights and enjoyments will not be seen when cinemas were watched on the online platform.

For example, watching a horror film on an online platform is not more interesting rather than watching it in theatres. These experiences make watching films in the theatres more enthusiastic and interesting than watching them on OTT platforms.

In conclusion, I would say that watching low quality films like short films and third tier actor movies on online is far better than watching in a theatre. Whereas watching a high quality and tier 1 actor film in theatres is the beat way to have a good experience. If people watch cinemas for its story or to have an entertainments its better to watch on online platform, while watching it for a vibe, terror and joy I would prefer to watch in a theatre.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding 'economic and cultural' importance is mentioned in the introduction but not meaningfully expanded upon in the body paragraphs. The reasoning relies heavily on personal preference rather than broader societal or economic analysis. To reach a higher band, you need to provide more substantial evidence or logical reasoning for the economic and cultural claims, rather than focusing primarily on the 'vibe' or personal enjoyment of watching films in a theatre.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'This is because' are used at the beginning of consecutive sentences, which limits the flow of the text. Additionally, the transition between the discussion of the two views and your own opinion is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'on the other hand' would help create a more sophisticated logical progression between your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good joy', 'good experience', and 'enthusiastic'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'watching cinemas' (you watch films or movies, not cinemas) and 'third tier actor movies'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic or topic-specific vocabulary related to the film industry, such as 'cinematic experience', 'cultural significance', or 'digital streaming platforms'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'I will not agree that' (should be 'I do not agree'), 'all the movie or film can be seen in online' (should be 'online'), and 'watching it for a vibe, terror and joy I would prefer' (which lacks proper punctuation and structure). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of sentence construction and article usage.
