Student answer (Band 5.5)
One group of people insist that Theatres and cinemas are not of much importance now that everything is available online, while the other group states that they still hold their importance.
In today's day and age, where everything is easily accessible and free most of the times, people think that spending their money and taking out time especially to go to cinemas and theatres is a waste of both the resources, that are time and money. The common belief is that if you can see the same thing at the comfort of your home then why would you go out. This is specifically a common trait among introverts or those who do not like crowded spaces.
While, on the other hand, is a group of individuals who strongly believe that the joy of watching your favorite movie or drama is actually in a theatre because of better vibe, surroundings, big screen, and the mood that is particularly set in that environment.
While both of the opinions hold weight, but saying that they are no longer important would be a wrong statement in my view. Even though the number of people going to cinema and theatres have significantly declined from the past few years, but there is still a large number of people that prefer to watch the entertainment that way. I, myself, would generally prefer watching online, at the comfort of my own space because of being an introvert, but i understand other's view of actually wanting to enjoy their time as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is quite limited. The arguments regarding the economic and cultural importance of theatres are mentioned only briefly as 'better vibe' and 'big screen', lacking depth or specific examples. The essay touches on the prompt but does not fully explore the economic or cultural implications requested. To improve, you should expand on your points with specific examples, such as the role of cinemas in local economies or the unique social experience of live theatre, rather than relying on general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and mechanical. For example, the frequent use of 'while' at the start of sentences and the reliance on simple transitions like 'on the other hand' could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words. Additionally, the progression of ideas within paragraphs is a bit disjointed, particularly in the final paragraph where the transition from the general view to your personal preference feels abrupt.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on common phrases like 'in today's day and age' and 'not of much importance'. There is an attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but it is quite basic. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more sophisticated collocations and academic vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'cinematic experience', 'cultural heritage', or 'digital transformation', rather than repeating simple descriptors like 'better vibe'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors that persist. For instance, 'the number of people... have significantly declined' should be 'has significantly declined' (subject-verb agreement). There are also punctuation issues, such as the unnecessary comma in 'While both of the opinions hold weight, but saying...'. Additionally, the use of 'i' instead of 'I' is a recurring error. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score.
