Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student addresses both views presented in the prompt and provides a personal opinion, stating a clear preference for online entertainment. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly in the body paragraphs where points such as cost and convenience are restated without deeper extension or specific real-world examples. Phrases like 'I shed some light on both views' function as template-like scaffolding rather than genuine engagement with the topic. While all parts of the task are touched upon, the arguments lack robust support and detailed elaboration. These characteristics align best with Band 5.0 descriptors, where the task is addressed, but the ideas remain under-developed and limited in scope.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, featuring an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions, mechanical cohesive devices like 'To commence with' and 'To elaborate it', and numerous structural issues. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall flow is hindered by repetitive phrasing and disjointed sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal coherence within the paragraphs is weak, as ideas jump abruptly from point to point without smooth linking. These features correspond to a Band 5.0 score for Coherence and Cohesion, reflecting some overall organisation but inadequate and repetitive use of cohesive devices.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a limited vocabulary with noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation throughout the response. Examples include 'ecnomically' instead of economically, 'upcomming', 'convinient', 'severals', 'formost', 'rathan', 'expansive', and 'nutsheel'. While the student attempts less common vocabulary such as 'vindication', 'denizens', and 'dwellers', these terms are frequently misused or awkwardly placed in context, causing some difficulty for the reader. The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate for addressing the topic, but frequent lexical errors and spelling mistakes restrict the score to a Band 4.5 or rounded to Band 5.0, where noticeable errors impede natural expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The writing contains a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are almost entirely faulty. The text is plagued by basic grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the screen are huge', 'theatres are more darkness'), missing articles ('in mobile phones'), and incorrect preposition use. Frequent punctuation errors, such as unnecessary spaces before commas and full stops, further weaken the control over mechanics. Simple sentences often contain structural flaws, and error frequency is high throughout the response, obstructing smooth readability. This performance aligns closely with the Band 4.0 descriptors, where errors are frequent and grammar control is weak.
