Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the contemporary world, some individuals tell that the digital technology has changed multiple things, theatres and cinemas are no longer convenient as they can watch all the entertainment on the online platforms. However, on the other side people believe that theatres and cinemas are still important, both economically and culturaly. In this essay, I will discuss both plots with relevant examples, followed by my point of view.

Firstly, nowadays due to modern advancements every individual have access of internet, and many production platforms allow people to buy their subscriptions and watch entertainment shows. People can easily access this platforms from any devices and places. Another reason is comfort, most people feel serene at their personal rooms, and ott platforms are offering new movies and shows earlier on websites. For example, a platform named Netflix releases new movies and series every weekend. As a result, people can watch everything online so they avoid to go out for such entertainment purposes.

On the other side, people believe that theatres and cinemas are still relevant as they contribute in country economy, and allow people to connect with culture. When people go in theatres to watch movies, it allows them to enjoy cinema on bigger screen with great sound. Also, they can enjoy with other people and can celebrate the some scenes. For example, a movie name kantara was released last year only in theatres, which allow people to know about local tradition and the movie was blockbuster, that's why it contributed well for coutry growth.

In my opinion, watching entertainment online at home gives different type of comfort, and allow us to spend our time wisely. For example, while watching movie, if i get an urgent work then i can pause it and whenever my work ends, I can start it again, where last paused.

In conclusion, digital devices and technology has changed many things for theatres and cinemas, where some people believe it is not reliable as they can watch all shows online. However, some individuals argue that theatres and cinemas are still necessary for country economy and people culture. From my point of view, people should watch entertainment shows, where they are comfortable.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that cinemas are obsolete due to online entertainment and that they remain culturally and economically important—while also providing a clear personal opinion. The position is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are generally extended and supported, such as mentioning Netflix as an example of online streaming and the movie 'Kantara' for theatrical impact. However, some arguments tend to over-generalize or lack depth, such as the brief conclusion on personal convenience. Overall, the task is competently addressed, fitting comfortably into Band 6.5 to 7.0, with solid coverage that satisfies the requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is clearly organised with a logical overall progression. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing online viewing, theatrical benefits, personal opinion, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'Firstly', 'On the other side', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and transitions are at times slightly mechanical or faulty, for example, using 'plots' instead of 'viewpoints' in the introduction, and minor cohesion lapses between sentences. Paragraphing is used sufficiently, ensuring the text remains coherent and easy to follow throughout, earning a solid Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'contemporary', 'advancements', and 'blockbuster'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors throughout the response, such as 'some individuals tell that' instead of 'say that', 'access of internet' instead of 'access to the internet', 'personal rooms' instead of 'private rooms', and 'coutry growth' instead of 'country's growth'. There are also occasional spelling errors like 'culturaly' and 'coutry'. These errors do not impede communication, placing the vocabulary firmly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb forms, articles, and prepositions, such as 'every individual have access' (subject-verb agreement), 'avoid to go out' instead of 'avoid going out', and missing articles ('on bigger screen'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but structural slips occur regularly, such as comma splices ('...released last year only in theatres, which allow people...'). Because errors are frequent in complex structures and impede seamless reading occasionally, the grammar warrants a Band 6.0.
