Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—the dominance of online entertainment in the digital age and the enduring economic and cultural importance of theatres and cinemas—while also providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas in the body paragraphs is somewhat repetitive and hindered by confusing phrasing, such as discussing busy routines and Netflix in the same paragraph dedicated to the digital age. While the writer's stance is discernible ('I agree with the formal notion'), the arguments lack full extension and logical clarity, placing this response at Band 5.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic organisational structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, overall progression is limited and paragraphing is disjointed. The transition phrases used ('To begin with', 'On the flip side', 'To conclude') are overly mechanical and sometimes grammatically flawed, such as 'Before arriving on suitable conclusion, this essay will discuss both views in implementing paragraph.' Furthermore, referencing is frequently unclear, and cohesive devices are often misused, leading to a choppy and repetitive flow. These issues reflect Band 5.0 performance.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is somewhat limited and repetitive. The student attempts some less common phrases, such as 'umpteen benefits', 'myraid of reasons', and 'irrefutably truth', but these frequently suffer from severe word-choice, collocation, and grammatical form errors (e.g., 'theatres play's an crucial role', 'seven screen'). Words like 'formal' are used incorrectly instead of 'former'. While communication is generally maintained despite these flaws, the high frequency of lexical errors prevents the response from reaching Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The essay exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are constant, pervasive errors in basic grammar, punctuation, and subject-verb agreement throughout the text, such as 'theatres play's', 'theatres as and cinemas are no important', and 'that why theatres are more important'. Run-on sentences and punctuation misuse are also common. Because frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and accurate sentences are in the minority, this falls solidly into Band 4.5.
