Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views regarding the importance of theatres versus online entertainment and presents a clear personal opinion. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, particularly in the supporting body paragraphs. Furthermore, the response is under-length, containing only 215 words compared to the minimum requirement of 250 words. This negative impact on length restricts the depth of development, resulting in a Band 5.0 score for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays a basic structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, but the organization suffers from fragmentation and abrupt transitions, such as starting a sentence with a lowercase letter ('on the one hand'). Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, and referencing is occasionally unclear. While there is a discernible overall arrangement, progression is somewhat disjointed. This aligns best with the Band 5.0 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the topic, incorporating words like 'immersive', 'accessible', and 'preserving'. However, there are noticeable word-form and choice errors throughout the text, such as 'online entertainment have become' instead of 'has', and 'cinemas beneficial for economy'. Word repetition is also evident. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a solid Band 5.0 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('cinemas and theatres beneficial', 'every individual have'), punctuation errors, and capitalization slips (e.g., 'on the one hand, Some critics'). These errors occasionally impede communication and restrict the score to a Band 5.0.
