Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some people argue that in the modern age, theatres and cinemas are of no use while many insist that cinemas and theatres are crucial for both economy and culture.
On the one side of coin, few people suppport the statement that cinemas and theatres are no more required in modern society. Nowadays, almost everyone has a smartphone or a TV in their house. So, anyone who has to stream their desired TV shows, movies or dramas can watch it online by just clicking it with the TV remote while sitting on their sofa. They do not need to travel a long journey from home toward the theater just for a show. Instead they choose to sit at their home and watch it online becuase it will save both time and money.
On the other side, numerous people insist that cinemas and theatres are important economically and culturally. Both cinemas and theatres are play and important role in a country economy. When tickets are soled, a wholesome amount of revenue is generated to support the economy of a country. In addition with, cinemas and theatres play a vital role in a country's culture as dramas, talk shows, live performances, share aour long-term cultural memories.
I am aligned with the cultural and econimcal importance of theatres and cinemas and I urge government to take initiatives to courage cinemas and theatres by supporting it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views regarding the relevance of theatres and cinemas in the digital age and includes the writer's own opinion, thereby covering all parts of the task. However, the ideas are relatively brief and underdeveloped, particularly in the discussion of economic and cultural benefits. Furthermore, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 231 words. This under-length impacts the overall development of ideas and results in a penalty under Task Achievement. While the position is clear throughout, the limited depth and failure to meet the length requirement prevent the score from reaching the higher bands. It aligns best with Band 5.5 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each viewpoint, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is sometimes hindered by awkward transitions and repetitive phrasing, such as 'On the one side of coin' and 'On the other side'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion relies on mechanical devices rather than smooth referencing. Pronoun referencing is occasionally unclear, and the overall arrangement shows limitations in managing cohesive ties effectively. It matches the characteristics of Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate vocabulary range to communicate basic ideas about streaming, technology, and economic and cultural value (e.g., 'smartphone', 'revenue', 'live performances'). However, there are noticeable lexical errors, awkward collocations, and spelling mistakes, such as 'suppport', 'soled', 'aour', 'econimcal', and 'courage' instead of 'encourage'. These errors reveal a limited range and occasional difficulty with word choice, which places the vocabulary in the Band 5.0 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text displays a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as conditional or relative clauses ('anyone who has to stream their desired TV shows...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors such as subject-verb agreement issues ('theatres and cinemas are play and important role'), preposition misuse ('share aour long-term cultural memories'), and word-form errors. While communication is not entirely impeded, the high frequency of errors across basic and complex structures points directly to a Band 5.0 level.
