Student answer (Band 6.0)
People have different views about whether theatres and cinemas are important or not. While some people believe that theatres and cinemas are no longer important in this digital age as people can watch all the entertainment they want online, others argue that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. This essay will discuss both perspectives before explaining why I believe that theatres and cinemas are not essential anymore.
On the one hand, there are several reasons why people believe that theatres and cinemas are not important. The main reason is that, in the advanced age that we are living in, people have various means of getting entertainment in their everyday life. For example, there are numerous streaming platforms for consuming entertainment such as netflix and youtube. People can watch whatever they want anytime for a low cost and even free of cost sometimes, they do not have to visit a specific place for watching a movie as they can watch anywhere in just few clicks, it can be their bedroom or while they are traveling. Therefore, people find it more convenient to consume entertaining content through online streaming platforms.
On the other hand, many argue that theatres and cinemas are still important from an economical and a cultural point of view. This is mainly because movie makers make more money through cinemas than online streaming. For instance, a movie ticket costs more a online streaming but it provide people the premium experience which an online app or website cannot give. Another big reason is culture, theatres and cinemas have been around for hundreds of years and they have become a part of our culture, so people are attached to its cultural aspect.
In my view, theatres and cinemas are not essential because it is more convenient to use online apps as we have countless streaming platforms which we can use whenever we want.
In conclusion, although theatres and cinemas have various positive aspects, I believe that they are no longer important in this modren world because of how we can consume countless content through online platforms.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that theatres and cinemas are no longer important due to online streaming, and that they remain economically and culturally significant. The student clearly states their personal position in the introduction and reiterates it in the body and conclusion. Ideas are relevant, such as mentioning Netflix, YouTube, and the convenience of mobile viewing on one hand, and economic and cultural attachment on the other. However, some arguments are slightly repetitive or under-developed, particularly the explanation regarding economic contributions and ticket costs, which contains a slight logical confusion (a movie ticket costs more 'a online streaming'). Overall, the task is well addressed, earning a Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear overall progression with a recognizable introduction, distinct body paragraphs addressing each viewpoint, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, there are some mechanical or faulty cohesive links, such as a very long, run-on sentence in the second body paragraph ('People can watch whatever they want anytime... it can be their bedroom or while they are traveling') which uses comma splices instead of appropriate conjunctions or full stops. Referencing and logical transitions are generally clear, placing this comfortably at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'streaming platforms', 'convenient', 'economical', and 'perspectives'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are sometimes accompanied by minor word-choice or collocation errors, such as 'costs more a online streaming' instead of 'costs more than online streaming', and the misspelling 'modren' instead of 'modern'. Despite these occasional inaccuracies, the lexical resource is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without impeding communication, aligning with the Band 6.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and introductory dependent clauses effectively (e.g., 'While some people believe that...'). However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are noticeable punctuation errors, notably run-on sentences joined by commas in the second body paragraph. Additionally, minor grammatical slips occur, such as missing articles or prepositions ('for watching a movie', 'cost more a online streaming'). Because the mix of structures is present but errors persist and occasionally hinder syntactic flow, a Band 6.0 is appropriate.
