Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views on theatres and cinemas versus online streaming platforms and briefly offers a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and often superficial. For instance, the discussion on online streaming mentions that viewers can pause, rewind, and stop, but these points are not sufficiently extended or supported with deeper analysis. Furthermore, the length requirement has NOT been met: the essay contains only 232 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. This negative impact on task completion, combined with the under-development of ideas, places this response at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays some organizational structure, dividing the response into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, though paragraphing is flawed (for instance, repeating the transitional phrase 'on the one hand' for two opposing paragraphs). Overall progression is hindered by choppy sentences, repetitive phrasing, and inadequate or inaccurate cohesive devices. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as abrupt shifts between ideas. Although there is an underlying structure attempting to contrast the two views, the overall lack of clear, logical progression and mechanical cohesion restricts the score to Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a limited and occasionally repetitive vocabulary, such as 'entertainment', 'movies', and 'theatres'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as 'hi-tech gadget', 'celehbrates', 'argument's', 'beehive's', 'alto's of online pelt forms', and 'outdoor plane'. These errors and spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical range, fitting the criteria for Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences or faulty complex constructions. There are frequent and persistent errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, verb forms, and articles (e.g., 'everyone has a access to internet', 'people are living with hi-tech gadget', 'where they can connected', 'when you are watch the movie', 'it feel more excitement'). These frequent errors frequently impede smooth reading and distort meaning at times, justifying a Band 4.5 or 5.0; given some successful simple structures, a score of 5.0 is appropriate.
