Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some individuals consider that in the digital era , where people does not live without internet , theatres and cinemas are not such important because people could watch all the entertainment via online OTT platforms, while others believe that for economically and culturally point of view they are still crucial. Although, the latter opinion can be beneficial for some cases , i believe that watching movies on OTT platforms can be more beneficial for poeple in today's digital world.

Theatres and cinemas can be consider a suitalbe place for the entertainment for people who wants to experience a good quality of sound and visualisation. This is becasue people go to cinema for experiene some special type of movies like 3D movies where people uses 3D glasses for better experience and also for the vibe which generated by croud. For example Bahubali movie produced by Bollywood in 2016, people were fully exited to go to watch movie in theatre. These movies are represent a small fraction of entertainment , thus going to theatres to watch movies are not a best solution every time because of money and travelling.

On the other hand, watching movies and entertainments programs on social media platforms at home where all type of comforts people create is the best way in today's digital age. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on the relevance of theatres and cinemas in the digital age and providing a clear personal opinion. The student's position is stated in the introduction and maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and occasionally repetitive. For instance, the discussion on OTT platforms and the impact of 'JIO unlimited internet network' touches on relevant economic and technological aspects, but the supporting arguments could be extended further. While the ideas are relevant, some points, such as the specific examples of Bollywood movies, are under-developed. Nevertheless, the prompt is adequately answered, placing the response firmly in the Band 6 category for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay presents a clear overall arrangement with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each viewpoint, and an incomplete conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct ideas, though the conclusion is abruptly cut off. Cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'This is because', 'On the other hand', and 'For instance' are used to connect ideas, but their application is sometimes mechanical or imprecise. Referencing can also be unclear, as seen in pronoun usage and awkward transitions between sentences. While the progression of ideas is generally followable, the faulty cohesion and lack of a complete concluding paragraph prevent a higher score, making Band 5.0 appropriate.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting less common items such as 'digital era', 'OTT platforms', and 'visualization'. However, there are numerous word choice errors, awkward collocations, and spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'suitalbe', 'becasue', 'experiene', 'croud', 'exited', 'represent' instead of 'representing', and 'excess' instead of 'access'. While these lexical inaccuracies do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to cause strain for the reader. The control over word formation and spelling is inconsistent, reflecting the characteristics of a Band 5 performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at subordination with clauses introduced by 'where', 'although', and 'because'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('where people does not live', 'theatres and cinemas can be consider', 'people who wants'), tense consistency, and article usage. Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with erratic spacing around commas and periods, and the essay ends mid-sentence. Although the basic meaning remains understandable, the high frequency of grammatical and structural errors places this response at Band 5.0.
