Student answer (Band 6.5)
Many individuals argue that theatres and cinemas are no longer relevant now as people can watch all the entertainment they want online, while I agree with others who believe them to be still financially and culturally significant. Although things like convenience may make OTTs and online forms of content more attractive, the immersive experience of theatres can never be replaced.
On the one hand, many believe that accessibility of online content, especially the OTT platforms like Netflix, has made the theatres less important. Due to the rise of internet people can now watch many movies and dramas remotly on their devices. On top of that, it is far more convenient to watch content on the internet as it is just a few seconds away from you. A monthly subscription of Netflix is just rupees 129, which is less than a ticket of one movie, which makes these platforms more practical.
On the other hand, there are those who think that movie and drama theatres are still a relevant medium of watching content because of the immersive experience it provides to the audience. As the hardwares like sound system and movie screen are generally superior than those normally available at home, it gives a very delightful experience. Moreover, as we live in a fast paced world and families do not often engage with each other, going out to watch a movie or a cultual show increases that bonding and understanding between families. There are many families, for example, who have a family ritual to go out and watch a drama in a local theatre every week, just in order to interact with all the family members.
To conclude, watching movies and shows in theatres, particularly along with families is much more relevant in this 21st century because of the family interaction and realistic experience it brings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that theatres are obsolete due to online entertainment and that they remain economically and culturally important—while clearly stating the writer's own opinion in the introduction. The ideas are generally well developed, such as contrasting the cost of an OTT subscription like Netflix with cinema ticket prices and explaining the cultural and familial benefits of visiting local theatres. However, some arguments could be extended further with deeper examples rather than broad generalizations. For instance, the economic impact mentioned in the prompt is only touched upon briefly through ticket pricing and subscriptions, rather than exploring industry revenue or job creation. Nevertheless, the position is well-maintained throughout the essay, meeting the criteria for a solid Band 6.5 to 7.0, ultimately leaning toward Band 7.0 for addressing all task requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. It follows a traditional four-paragraph structure with a distinct introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well to guide the reader, employing transition markers such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude'. Paragraphing is handled appropriately, with each body paragraph dedicated to a distinct viewpoint. However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel slightly mechanical, and the transitional links between sentences within body paragraphs could flow more naturally. For example, the sentence 'Due to the rise of internet people can now watch many movies and dramas remotly on their devices' directly follows the previous thought without seamless integration. Overall, the organizational structure is clear and coherent, satisfying Band 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items and subject-related terminology such as 'immersive experience', 'accessibility', 'subscription', and 'cultual show' (with a minor typo). Words like 'convenience', 'practical', and 'significant' are used appropriately to convey meaning. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, spelling, and collocation. For instance, 'hardwares' is incorrectly pluralized, 'remotly' is misspelled, and 'rupees 129' is slightly informal for an academic task. Additionally, phrases like 'medium of watching content' could be more idiomatic (e.g., 'medium for viewing content'). The vocabulary is sufficient for the task and allows communication to flow smoothly despite occasional errors, placing it comfortably in the Band 6.0 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating subordinate clauses effectively, as seen in 'Although things like convenience may make OTTs and online forms of content more attractive, the immersive experience of theatres can never be replaced.' There is good control over basic grammar, and meaning is rarely obscured. However, several grammatical errors and awkward phrasing appear throughout the text. Examples include 'the rise of internet' (missing article), 'remotly' (spelling), 'As the hardwares like sound system' (incorrect pluralization of hardware and missing articles), and a comma splice in the second paragraph ('A monthly subscription of Netflix is just rupees 129, which is less than a ticket of one movie, which makes these platforms more practical'). Because errors persist alongside successful complex structures, this performance fits the Band 6.0 descriptor.
