Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is ongoing debate some argue that digitals tools have replaced cinemas and theatres economically and culturally and they are not as much crucial as they used to be.In my opinion, people do enjoy watching anything online while sitting in their couch without even disturbing their comfort zone and privacy.

A significant number of population think that innovation has replaced cinemas and theatres due to the fact that people enjoy watching the show they adore sitting at home more than going out.To illustrate this a person enjoy watching a show online because it would be more cheaper for him to watch at home and in today's world of inflation people just get attracted to the thing that is a bit cheap. At home you have flexible time to watch your show as person who has a busy office schedule would prefer watching the show in leiscinure time instead of reserving the ticket and then going at a particular place to watch.

While some argue that cinemas still play a vital role economically and culturally as well. For instace, a person who is on outing with family will prefer to spend quality time with his homies by watching movie or any show together. Moreover, going to cinemas or theatres will also facilitate the country economically and it makes people culturally connected.

In conclusion, both opinions have weightage but people should accept that digital technology has actually cinemas and theatres.Cinemas and theatres have become outdated as peop;e now a days just using their cellphones and electronic devices to watch their shows or anything.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that cinemas are no longer important due to digital alternatives, and that they remain economically and culturally significant—while offering a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding cost and convenience in the second body paragraph is stated generally without deep exploration. Sentences such as 'a person enjoy watching a show online because it would be more cheaper' demonstrate underdeveloped reasoning and slight over-generalisation. The conclusion abruptly states that digital technology has replaced theatres without fully tying together the preceding arguments. Overall, the response meets the core requirements of addressing the prompt, but the ideas lack full extension and robust support, aligning with a Band 6.0 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical and sometimes faulty. Transitional phrases like 'To illustrate this' and 'Moreover' are used, but referencing and linking across sentences often feel disjointed. For instance, the transition into the final paragraph lacks a smooth logical bridge, and the sentence 'digital technology has actually cinemas and theatres' is missing a verb, causing a cohesive break. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas could be more structured, particularly within the conclusion where thoughts are truncated. Punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'used to be.In my opinion'), further detract from the flow. These features place the response firmly in the Band 5.0 to 5.5 range, warranting a 5.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'innovation', 'inflation', and 'economically and culturally'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form throughout the text. Examples include 'digitals tools' instead of 'digital tools', 'more cheaper' (a double comparative), 'leiscinure time' (a spelling/word-form error for leisure time), and 'homies' (an inappropriately informal colloquialism for family members or friends). Furthermore, the conclusion contains a fragmented sentence with a missing lexical item ('actually cinemas and theatres'). While communication is generally maintained despite these errors, the frequent lexical inaccuracies and inappropriate stylistic choices prevent the response from achieving a higher band, making a 5.0 score appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'While some argue that cinemas still play a vital role economically and culturally as well.' However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors that cause some difficulty for the reader. There are numerous tense and agreement issues, such as 'some argue that digitals tools have replaced... and they are not as much crucial' and 'a person enjoy watching'. Punctuation and spacing errors are also pervasive throughout the text (e.g., missing spaces after periods, 'peop;e', 'now a days'). Complex structures are often faulty, and the presence of basic structural errors in nearly every sentence indicates that simple sentences are handled with more success than complex ones. This performance reflects the Band 5 descriptors.
