Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that cinemas are obsolete due to online platforms, and that they remain economically and culturally important—while also providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, the arguments regarding online viewing saving time and money, and helping introverts, are mentioned but remain somewhat surface-level. The conclusion restates the opinion and adds minor new thoughts. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into logical paragraphs with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion at the sentence level is frequently faulty and mechanical, with awkward transitional phrases such as 'On the first hand' instead of 'On the one hand', and missing spaces after punctuation marks. Paragraphing is present, but the overall progression is occasionally hindered by abrupt shifts and run-on sentences, such as in the second body paragraph where multiple ideas are crowded together. This corresponds to a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate to convey basic ideas, with attempts at less common lexical items like 'desending', 'introvert', and 'preserve'. However, there are numerous word choice, collocation, and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'threater' instead of 'theater', 'desending' for 'descending', 'easy accessible' for 'easily accessible', and 'bif theatres' for 'big theatres'. These errors occasionally draw attention, placing the response solidly in the Band 5.0 range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('movies and show through internet provide'), tense inconsistencies ('movies and cinemas are became'), and run-on sentences lacking appropriate punctuation. Articles and prepositions are also frequently misused, such as 'in economic and culturally'. Because errors are frequent and sometimes cause difficulty for the reader, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
