Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's rapidly changing world, digital age has become a matter of considerable debate. While some people believe that theatres and cinemas are still crucial for the economy as well as the culture, other argue that they are not at all important in the current era where people can watch everything online. This essay will discuss both views before I explain why I believe that watching everything online is better than going to the cinema's.
One of the main reasons why people believe that theatres and cinemas are essedntial for the economy and culture is because it contibutes to a lot of people for instance, when people go to the cinemas they pay for it which generates income through the tickets as well as from the foods and drinks that we buy. It also creates job oppotunities for people working at there. Moreover it generates income for the actors and the directors working day and night.
On the other hand, there are few people who prefer the convenience of staying home and getting their source of entertainment rather than wasting hours going outdoors for a movie or show. For example, a person who is already busy working all day out wants something relaxing at the end of the day and would prefer a cozy vibe of his own house for the entertainement purposes and would save his time. Consequently, I believe the ease of watching everything online works better as you can resume the show anytime and watch it the next day.
In conclusion, although theatres and cinemas are consideered to contribute both economically and culturally. In my view, digital age has made things easier and favourable because in todays busy world people can easily enjoy there free time watching everything online without having to go outside and sit for hours watching one thing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—the economic and cultural importance of theatres and cinemas, and the convenience of watching entertainment online—while also presenting a clear personal opinion. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the ideas lack full extension and development, particularly in the body paragraphs where arguments are somewhat repetitive and rely on general statements without specific supporting examples. For instance, the discussion on economic benefits states that it generates income and creates job opportunities, but it does not elaborate on how or provide concrete examples. Consequently, the task response sits comfortably at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, with phrases like 'On the other hand, there are few people who prefer...' and repetitive transitional markers. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where 'it contributes to a lot of people' lacks a clear referent. Progression is maintained, but the flow is occasionally disrupted by minor structural awkwardness, placing this criterion at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'rapidly changing world', 'convenience', and 'economically and culturally'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors, including 'essedntial' instead of essential, 'contibutes' instead of contributes, 'oppotunities' instead of opportunities, 'there' instead of their/they, and 'consideered' instead of considered. Additionally, phrases like 'the cozy vibe of his own house for the entertainement purposes' show awkward collocation and repetition. These errors do not impede communication, allowing for a Band 6.0 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures such as 'While some people believe that... other argue that...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation slips, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('other argue', 'a person who is... wants... and would prefer... and would save'), incorrect prepositions ('working at there'), and missing punctuation in the conclusion ('culturally. In my view...'). Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, aligning with the Band 6 descriptor where a mix of structures is used alongside noticeable errors that rarely impede communication.
