Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is an ongoing debate about whether the cinemas are more important or online movie platforms. Some people argue that in the technical era, online platforms may replace cinemas or theaters , while others argue that cinemas and theaters have a noticeable impact on the finance and tradition sectors. I hold a view that cinemas and theaters are still crucial in order to benefits country's monetary.

One of the main advantage of allowing the audience to watch movies in cinemas is definitely to boost up the economy of the country. As more people come to watch movie in cinema halls, the more revenue will be generated. In addition, numerous employment opportunities will be created for number of citizens. For example, around the any movie theater, there are different type of food stalls like popcorns, slushes and fries can be observed.

Another significant advantage that the cinemas therefore promote the cultural and traditional values of the country. People from different regions come to watch their favorite movie and enjoy their leisure time. They meet people with different cultural backgrounds and discuss about story of the movie and hero, which enhances the social interaction among the people.

Many people argue that cinemas are no longer crucial. In addition, the OTT platforms like the Netflix, Prime Video may have some considerable benefits for instance, the access to the movies or web-series have become easily reachable and usually consume a very little cost. But I firmly believe that few of the online websites is putting an extra burden to the film industry by pirating the movie in unauthorized manner before or just after release.

In conclusion, although the online platforms could save money, the cinemas are significantly important for holding a sustainable economy and promoting national culture.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the importance of online platforms versus the economic and cultural value of cinemas—and presents a clear personal opinion. The ideas are generally relevant, as seen in the discussion of job creation and cultural exchange around movie theaters. However, some arguments are a bit repetitive or under-developed. For example, the point about food stalls could be extended further to fully explain the broader economic impact. The position is maintained throughout the essay, but the development of supporting details places the response firmly within Band 6.0 according to the task response descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different arguments, such as economic benefits in paragraph two and cultural benefits in paragraph three. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or faulty, such as 'In addition, numerous employment opportunities...' and 'Another significant advantage that the cinemas therefore promote...'. Referencing and logical progression are occasionally disjointed, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Overall, the organizational structure is clear enough to merit a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'revenue', 'employment opportunities', and 'unauthorized manner'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'technical era' instead of 'digital age', 'benefits country's monetary' instead of 'benefit the country's economy', and 'boost up' instead of 'boost'. There are also minor errors like missing articles ('the cinemas', 'watch movie'). These lexical errors occur with some frequency but do not impede communication, matching the Band 6.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and relative clauses. There are instances of good control, but grammar and punctuation errors are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Examples of errors include subject-verb agreement issues like 'few of the online websites is putting' instead of 'are putting', incorrect preposition use like 'around the any movie theater', and missing plural markers or articles. While these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear, they indicate a lack of consistent grammatical accuracy, aligning with Band 6.0.
