Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people argue that in technological era, theatres and cinema are less valuable because of online streaming platforms, which help them to watch entertainment on the internet, while others believe that traditional cinema and theatres are aidful for both economic and culture heritage. This essay will intend to analyze both the views along with my perspective.

On the one hand, there are several reason why theatres and cinemas are becoming less important. The prominent one is that online streaming platforms, which are convenient and flexible. To explain it, online streaming applications assist users to watch their favourite film or show anywhere or anytime. For example, all family members are able to watch anything at home with single subscription on netflix. Moreover, it can be cheaper as well, there is no any tickets charges or transportation fee.

On the other hand, theatres and cinemas are still play a vital role. The first and foremost reason is that it gives social experience. In other words, individuals can spend time with their family and friends while watching interesting movie at theatre. Additionally, theatre gives betterview experience with HD quality and big screen. For instance, to watch blockbuster movie on big screen with high-end quality, make experience memorable. Furthermore, cinema provides employment to workers such as directors and actors. Thus, this boosts the economy of the country.

In my opinion, while online platforms give easy access to watch any entertainment anywhere, the experience of theatre view can not beat by streaming application as shows and films watch on mobile phones, tablet or TV.

In conclusion, although digital platforms make entertainment convenient and cheaper yet theatres and cinemas plays crucial role for economic growth and excellent experience of culture and society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on the importance of theatres and cinemas in the digital age and clearly stating the author's own opinion. The position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are generally relevant, but some are slightly under-developed or repetitive, such as the discussion of convenience and streaming platforms. Examples are provided, such as mentioning Netflix and family viewing, which supports the arguments adequately. However, extending the arguments with deeper analysis would have elevated the task response. Overall, the requirements of the task are met well, aligning closely with the Band 6.5 to 7.0 profile.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organised into an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each side of the argument, an opinion statement, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' 'Moreover,' and 'Furthermore.' However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in awkward transitions and minor linking errors like 'there is no any tickets charges.' Overall arrangement is coherent, allowing the reader to follow the progression of ideas easily, fitting comfortably within the Band 6 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully using terms such as 'digital age,' 'online streaming platforms,' 'cultural heritage,' and 'blockbuster movie.' There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, though this is occasionally accompanied by inaccuracy, such as 'aidful' (instead of beneficial) and 'betterview experience.' Word choice and collocation errors are noticeable ('watching interesting movie at theatre' missing articles, 'with single subscription'), but they do not impede communication. The lexical range is sufficient for the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures successfully. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding missing articles ('with single subscription on netflix', 'at theatre', 'on big screen'), incorrect prepositions, and verb form issues ('theatres and cinemas plays crucial role', 'view can not beat'). While these errors do not impede communication, they persist throughout the text and prevent the grammar score from reaching higher bands where error-free complex structures are more common.
