Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views regarding the importance of theatres and cinemas versus online streaming platforms and includes an opinion, although the stance is rather underdeveloped and briefly stated in the conclusion. The student attempts to discuss the economic and cultural significance in the introduction and body paragraphs, mentioning factors like employment, culture, and social interaction. However, the explanation of ideas remains somewhat superficial, and the arguments lack extended support or specific, real-world examples. For instance, the mention of cultural value is very brief. This performance aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors, as the task is addressed, but ideas are limited and lack full development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which provides a basic overall structure. However, paragraphing and logical progression are frequently hindered by weak cohesive devices and numerous mechanical errors. Transitional phrases like 'commencing with the most salient merit' and 'Despite given agreements' are awkwardly used and sometimes ungrammatical. Furthermore, referencing is unclear at times, and punctuation issues disrupt the flow of ideas. There is a lack of smooth progression between sentences, causing the reader to struggle with the logical links. These features reflect the Band 5 descriptors, where organisation is present, but overall progression is unclear and cohesive devices are inadequate or inaccurate.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited and minimally adequate vocabulary range suitable for discussing the topic of entertainment and cinemas. There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'salient', 'asseibility' (accessibility), and 'convencet' (convenient), but these are frequently marred by severe spelling errors and incorrect word forms. Words such as 'introvert', 'intract' (interact), and 'entertenment' are misspelled repeatedly, which noticeably strains the reader and impedes communication in places. Collocations are also weak, as seen in phrases like 'see onile platforms more convenet way'. This performance fits the Band 4 to Band 5 threshold, leaning towards Band 5 due to the basic adequacy of the terms attempted, though the frequent errors cause difficulty.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying primarily on simple sentences and basic complex structures that frequently contain severe errors. There is a persistent lack of control over basic punctuation and capitalization, with sentences often running together without proper periods or commas (e.g., 'Nowadays people are becomeing more introvert they are less willing...'). Verb tense usage, subject-verb agreement, and word forms are consistently flawed throughout the response ('people are becomeing', 'it also have some dissagreements', 'it cannot gives'). Complex sentence attempts are almost uniformly faulty. Because errors are frequent, pervasive, and frequently cause difficulty for the reader, this writing falls squarely into the Band 4 category for grammar.
