Student answer (Band 6.0)

Few individuals believe that in this technological era, theatres and cinemas have become obsolete as people can just experience the same entertainment online. While others argue that the classical ways are still up to date due to the fact that hold economical and cultural significance. On one hand, people who support the digital idea stand firm on their belief due to the virtual medias ability to provide the content of your choice while you sit at your home comfortably, online sites like Amazon Prime and Netflix have become quite famous in the current time; offering media of all kind to the users in reasonable prices. Furthermore, time saving also gives this the group the upper hand as one does not have to drive to a cinema which can sometimes be a long journey consequently, also saving your gas. For example if you have a show at 9:15 pm and the theatre is a bit far away from your accomodation then you have to leave as early as possible to not miss the show. On the other hand this batch argues that the old fashioned way is still compatible, As the released movies can gross tremendous amount which can be beneficial for the economy. For example Avengers Endgame which was released in 2019 grossed over 2.8 Billion Dollars. Furthermore, for some people the experience of cinema matters more than the movie; theatre has been played alnogside humans for centuries due to which it holds historical and traditional signficance; in some countries plays are more than just movies. After examining both prespectives i can conclude to the point that while the classical way holds alot of importance culturally and economically; but with the advent of internet we can enjoy the entertainment where ever we intend to.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the shift towards online streaming and the enduring economic and cultural importance of physical venues—while also providing a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. Ideas are adequately extended and supported with relevant examples, such as referencing Netflix, Amazon Prime, and the box office success of Avengers: Endgame. However, the development in places feels slightly rushed, and the transition between ideas could be sharper. Overall, the response meets the core requirements of Task Achievement and sits comfortably within Band 6.5 to 7.0, ultimately fulfilling the criteria for Band 6.5 due to minor generalisations and some under-developed supporting points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement, with distinct paragraphs dedicated to the introduction, the digital perspective, the traditional perspective, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'On one hand,' 'Furthermore,' and 'On the other hand,' to guide the reader through the arguments. However, referencing is occasionally imprecise (e.g., 'this batch', 'this group'), and punctuation errors, such as comma splices ('consequently, also saving your gas', 'compatible, As'), disrupt the smooth flow of the text. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion could be tightened to achieve a higher band. These issues align the response with a Band 6.0 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'technological era', 'obsolete', 'economical and cultural significance', and 'grossed over 2.8 Billion Dollars'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'hold economical' instead of 'economic significance', 'virtual medias ability', and 'play has been played alongside humans'. Spelling and word formation are generally clear, but these lexical slips restrict the score. The vocabulary is minimally sufficient to convey the intended meaning, matching Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, attempting conditional and relative clauses. However, control over punctuation and grammar is inconsistent. There are several run-on sentences and punctuation errors, such as starting clauses with lowercase letters after commas or periods (e.g., 'compatible, As', 'significance; in some countries'), and missing prepositions or articles ('at your home comfortably', 'reasonable prices'). While these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the text from reaching Band 7.0, making Band 6.0 a fair and accurate assessment.
