Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that theatres and cinemas are no longer important due to online entertainment, and that they remain culturally and economically vital—while also providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are generally relevant, as seen when the student notes financial benefits, job creation, and live entertainment experiences. However, some arguments lack full extension and suffer from slight generalisations or repetitive phrasing, such as in the conclusion. Despite these minor underdeveloped points, the main requirements of the task are met satisfactorily, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is arranged coherently with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, fulfilling a clear overall structure. Paragraphing is utilised to separate the contrasting viewpoints. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, transitional markers like 'To commence with', 'On the flip side', and 'In the nutshell' (instead of 'In a nutshell') are used rather mechanically. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun 'it' in the concluding paragraph which creates ambiguity regarding what generates the source of income. Overall coherence is maintained, but cohesive devices need more flexibility and precision for a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'contemporary society', 'paramount role', and 'kith and kins'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'peaple', 'area' instead of 'era', 'nad' instead of 'and', 'becomming', 'webseries', 'cimemas', and 'traditiona'. Additionally, collocations like 'tight schedule phase' are awkward and imprecise. While communication is not severely impeded, these recurring lexical and spelling inaccuracies restrict the score to Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety through conditional and relative clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors involving subject-verb agreement ('modes of entertainment plays', 'Many of the citizens thinks', 'online platforms may be lacked behind'), missing articles ('on internet', 'from different language'), and incorrect prepositions or verb forms ('without visiting to a cinema', 'this may increases'). These frequent errors in basic and intermediate structures mean that error-free sentences are not in the majority, making Band 5.0 the most appropriate descriptor.
