Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to discuss both views regarding the importance of theatres and cinemas in the digital age, presenting some relevant ideas, such as the social and cultural aspects of physical viewing spaces. However, the development of these ideas is severely restricted by repetitive arguments and extreme assertions, such as claiming that not going to the theatre leads directly to illness and death. Furthermore, the student's own opinion is not clearly stated or well-developed throughout the essay. The essay addresses the task only partially, as the arguments lack logical progression and remain superficial, which aligns closely with the Band 5 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays some overall organization with attempts at paragraphing, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, as seen with the constant reuse of phrases like 'the invention of' and 'day by day'. Paragraphing is also misused, resulting in very short, disjointed paragraphs that fail to develop a coherent flow of thought. Referencing is often unclear, causing the reader to struggle with following the connections between sentences. These features place the response firmly at Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms like 'important', 'digital devices', 'people', and 'weak'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'lose economically and culturally' instead of 'losses economically and culturally', and 'a hug mistake' instead of 'a huge mistake'. These limitations restrict the range of vocabulary to a minimally adequate level for the task, causing some difficulty for the reader. The appropriate band level for this level of lexical control is 4.5, rounded to 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The writer demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex sentences that are almost always faulty. There are persistent, major errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'by the invention of phone...' instead of 'due to the invention of phones...', 'human weak day by day', and 'they spent our time to use mobile phone'. These frequent errors often cause strain and difficulty for the reader, matching the requirements of Band 4.
