Student answer (Band 6.0)
The latest technology has provided ease for the people and now they can stay at home and watch all types of entertainment. Some people hold the view that due to this, cinemas and theatres are no longer vital for public's entertainment. On the other hand, some people believe that cinemas and theatres play a great role in the economy and culture of a society.
In this new digital era, people have access to all kinds of entertainment whether it's news, movies, documentaries, music or plays. You can watch any type of video on Youtube now. Likewise if you want to watch a show or a movie, Netflix will do the job for you. House wives nowadays like to watch dramas when they are done with their household chores. Due to all these facilities, people might prefer to stay at home and get entertainment whenever they want instead of having to be there at a specifc time for a theatre or a play.
In contrast, some poeple believe that the trend of cinemas and theatres should still remain because they are the sources of our economy to some extent. Moreover, there are some traditional plays having historical values that people should not forget. In some societies, it is a culture to watch movies in cinemas especially on public holidays and people enjoy watching them with their friends or families rather than staying at home.
Im my opinion, the concept of cinemas and theatres should not be demolished and people should visit them on weekends when they have some leisure time and on holidays, because these places are vital to maintain our cultural values as well as strengthen our economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—the decline of theatres due to online entertainment and their ongoing economic and cultural importance—while also providing a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. Ideas are relevant and supported with examples such as YouTube, Netflix, and cultural holiday habits. However, the development of ideas tends to be slightly superficial, particularly in the third paragraph regarding economic impacts, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Overall, the task is successfully and clearly answered, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or solid Band 7 performance under positive marking principles.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into four paragraphs, featuring a clear introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a concluding opinion. Cohesive devices are used adequately to guide the reader through the arguments, such as 'On the other hand', 'In contrast', and 'Moreover'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. However, referencing and transitions are at times a bit mechanical or simplistic (e.g., 'House wives nowadays... You can watch...'). Progression is generally clear throughout, though smoother transitional phrasing between sentences would elevate the organizational quality.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'demolished', 'leisure time', and 'cultural values'. While meaning is consistently clear, there are noticeable limitations in precision and word choice, such as 'ease for the people' instead of 'convenience' and the misspelling 'specifc'. Additionally, informal phrasing like 'do the job for you' detracts slightly from academic register. Despite these occasional inaccuracies and spelling slips, the lexical resource is sufficient to allow communication without difficulty.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional or dependent clauses adequately (e.g., '...instead of having to be there at a specifc time for a theatre or a play'). There are several grammatical errors and typos present, including 'House wives' (should be one word), 'poeple', 'historical values' (should be singular or phrased differently), and the missing letter typo 'Im my opinion'. Despite these persistent minor errors and punctuation slips, they rarely impede communication, and many sentences remain error-free, pointing securely to a Band 6 level.
