Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views required by the prompt and attempts to present a personal position. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive, particularly in the body paragraphs. For instance, the discussion on why people prefer watching movies online focuses almost exclusively on saving time, money, and staying at home without fully extending these points. The counter-argument regarding cultural benefits is also underdeveloped, mentioning vaguely that people 'bring together' without providing concrete elaboration. The student's own opinion is stated in the introduction and conclusion, but the reasoning provided ('because people are near to yourself and they respect for other individuals emotions') is unclear and poorly articulated. Consequently, the task is addressed, but the ideas lack full extension and robust support, placing the response at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into four distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which shows an underlying structure. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by confusing referencing and awkward cohesive devices. Phrases such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are used, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak. For example, sentences in the second paragraph are repetitive and connected loosely using simple conjunctions like 'and' or 'because', making it hard to follow the exact line of thought. Furthermore, pronoun referencing is often inaccurate, as seen in phrases like 'they watch movie to our phone because it so easy and anywhere you can watch'. Paragraphing is attempted, but overall coherence suffers from a lack of smooth transitions and clear progression, corresponding to Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and frequently strained. The student relies heavily on simple words and phrases such as 'watching movie', 'time', and 'people', repeating them multiple times within single sentences. There are also frequent word choice and collocation errors, such as 'not anymore significant', 'give the time for watching movie to cinema', and 'huge benefits about financially'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are either inaccurate or awkward, as in 'economical growth are also possible' instead of economic growth. While the meaning can sometimes be guessed through context, the lexical limitations and frequent inaccuracies significantly impede the fluency of the writing, making a Band 5.0 appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and sentence structure is very weak. There are frequent, intrusive errors that often cause difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning. Examples include 'There has been ongoing debate that several individuals believe', 'they have free in anytime of the day so wanted to unwind yourself', and 'people life so happy when they watching movies cinema'. Subject-verb agreement errors, incorrect prepositions, and missing auxiliary verbs are pervasive throughout the text. Complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to a high density of grammatical errors across almost every sentence. Therefore, the grammatical performance aligns with Band 4.0 descriptors due to frequent errors that distort meaning and strain the reader.
