Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the required word count, coming in at only 198 words instead of the minimum 250 words, which heavily penalises the task achievement score. The prompt requires discussing both views and giving a personal opinion. While the student attempts to mention both perspectives and states an opinion, the ideas are extremely limited, repetitive, and lack sufficient development. For instance, the argument regarding saving money is poorly articulated, and the citation of 'Emmawatson' is irrelevant and confusing. The conclusion directly contradicts the earlier discussion of cultural benefits by stating that cinemas are a waste of money. Due to the severe under-length issue and underdeveloped ideas, this response falls under Band 4.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The organisation of the text is heavily impaired by missing paragraph breaks, abrupt transitions, and an incomplete concluding sentence ('To sum up,'). While basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'While on the other hand', and 'However' are attempted, they are often misused or placed illogically, causing confusion. For example, the writer uses 'However' multiple times without proper contrast. The progression of ideas is hindered by repetitive statements, particularly regarding watching movies online to save money. Paragraphing is inadequate, as the final paragraph consists of only an unfinished introductory phrase. Overall, the information and ideas are not arranged coherently, aligning with a Band 4.0 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling and word-choice errors that significantly strain the reader. Examples of errors include 'modren ages', 'argueed', 'benificall', 'cineam', and 'resturents'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'economically and culturally', but they are marred by severe inaccuracies in spelling and collocation. Furthermore, the misuse of words like 'attribute' instead of 'attribute to' or quoting an inappropriate celebrity example ('Emmawatson') demonstrates a very limited control of lexical features. The vocabulary is repetitive throughout the essay, relying heavily on words like 'money', 'cinema', and 'online', restricting the score to a Band 4.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex sentence structures. There are persistent, frequent errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, tense usage, and article placement. Examples of grammatical errors include 'theatres and cinema are not significant important', 'people entertainment to see movie online', 'As cinema more expencive people to choose', and 'a crime rates are extremelly rise'. Punctuation is also poorly handled, with missing spaces after commas and periods throughout the text. Because errors are frequent, distort meaning in places, and severely impede smooth reading, this performance corresponds to a Band 4.0.
