Student answer (Band 5.5)
The rapid growth of digital entertainment has made it possible for people to watch films, shows and performance from the comfort of their homes. Although online platforms have reduced the need to visit cinemas and theatre, I believe these venues remain important because they provide unique social, cultural and economic benefits.
There are several reasons why people consider cinemas and theatres less important today. Streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime allow viewers to acess a vast range of entertainment at any time and usually at lower cost than visiting a cinema. In addition. online entertainment is more conveninet because people can pause, replay, or watch content without travelling anywhere. This has particularly benefited families and people living in area where cinemas or theatres are not easily accessible.
On the other side, cinemas and theatres offer experiences that cannot be completely reproduced at home. Watching a flim on large screen offers completely different experience than watching at home. On top of that, live theatres provide the excitement performance in real life. Moreover, this venues contribute to local economies by creating jobs and generating income for restaurants, transport services and other businesses.
In my view, digital platforms and traditional entertainment venues should be seen as complementary rather than competing alternatives. Online services are highly valuable for convenience and accessibility, but cinemas and theatres continue to serve an important social and cultural purpose.
In conclusion, online entertainment has made watching films and other movies more comfortable. However, cinemas and theatres still have cultural and social values. I believe that both should be continued as online provides affordability and comfort while cinemas and theatres helps local economy and create many jobs along side provide outstanding experience and vibe.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that theatres and cinemas are no longer important due to digital entertainment, and that they remain economically and culturally vital—while clearly stating the writer's own opinion. The position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant and supported with explanations, such as the convenience of streaming services versus the unique atmosphere and economic contributions of live venues. However, some points are slightly repetitive or could be extended further, particularly in the conclusion where ideas are restated without adding new depth. Overall, the response meets the requirements for Band 6.5 or a solid Band 7, but fits comfortably into Band 6 because some supporting ideas, like the economic impact, remain somewhat generalised and under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, such as the arguments against cinemas in paragraph two and the counter-arguments in paragraph three. Paragraphing is used appropriately throughout. However, there are some minor cohesive faults, such as a punctuation error where a full stop is misplaced ('In addition. online entertainment') and slight awkwardness in transitions like 'On the other side,' which would be more natural as 'On the other hand'. Referencing is generally clear, but cohesive devices can occasionally feel a bit mechanical. This aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'complementary', 'accessible', and 'economies'. However, there are several lexical errors and typos throughout the text, including 'acess' instead of 'access', 'conveninet' instead of 'convenient', 'flim' instead of 'film', and 'this venues' instead of 'these venues'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they demonstrate a lack of precision and control over less common vocabulary. Furthermore, the final paragraph relies on slightly repetitive language ('vibes', 'help local economy'). These features place the lexical resource firmly at Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional or concessive clauses such as 'Although online platforms have reduced the need...' and 'Streaming services such as... allow viewers to...'. There are several grammatical errors and typos present, such as 'performance' instead of 'performances', 'this venues' instead of 'these venues', and 'along side provide outstanding experience' which contains multiple grammatical slips. Despite these errors, the sentences remain largely understandable and meaning is not obscured. The grammar exhibits characteristics of Band 6, featuring a mix of structures alongside frequent minor errors.
