Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response significantly fails to meet the length requirement, containing only 94 words compared to the minimum of 250 words. Because the text breaks off abruptly in the second paragraph, the task is only partially addressed. The student introduces both views and attempts an introduction, but the body paragraphs are severely underdeveloped, preventing any real discussion of economic and cultural aspects or the formulation of a fully realized personal opinion. Consequently, the task response is limited and incomplete, which severely impacts the band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The response shows some basic organization, beginning with an introductory paragraph that outlines the topic and the structure of the essay. The second paragraph attempts a logical transition using the cohesive phrase 'On the one hand'. However, due to the extreme brevity of the text and the abrupt cut-off in the middle of a sentence ('saving time and'), paragraphing and overall progression cannot be fully evaluated. Cohesive devices are minimal, and there is no concluding section. While the limited writing is generally understandable, the organizational structure remains incomplete.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, featuring phrases such as 'watch all the entertainment they like' and 'Most like to watch films or movies'. There are noticeable lexical and collocation errors, such as 'internets overtakes', where the plural noun is misused and the verb tense lacks agreement. The word choice is quite narrow and lacks the range needed for precise academic discourse. Although the vocabulary is adequate to convey simple everyday concepts, it falls short of the flexibility and precision required for higher band levels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Many people argue that theaters and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally.' However, control over grammar is inconsistent. There are prominent errors including subject-verb agreement and punctuation issues, such as 'Nowadays internets overtakes' and a run-on sentence structure in the opening lines. The response abruptly terminates mid-sentence, reflecting poor control over extended syntax. While some basic sentences are grammatically correct, the frequency of errors restricts the score.
