Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many people believe that, in this digital era most people are watching all the entertainment online and theartes and cinemas are no longer the entertainment sources.I agree with this view, because of the new platforms and preference of the people has changed. On the otherhand some argue that theatres and cinemas still hold the importance in both economic and cultural development.

The growing trend about the online movies and entertainments, most of the people prefer to watch the movies online at their comfort zone. It is because of the advancement of technology that provide people with variety of online platforms such as Netfilx and Prime videos, these are the platforms that provide people with different types of entertainment. Moreover, every differnt individuals had different preferences about what kind of content they consumes so this is also a major factor that keep peopel to watch online rather than going for cineams and theatres.

In contrast, cinemas and theatres are the traditional way to get the entertainment. Theatres and cinemas hold the importance about the culture, for example most of the theraters and cinemas are based upon the cultrual acts and traditinal plays. Back in days, people were so thirlled about watching theatres and cinemas because of its unique way of entertaining people through live acts and plays. Theatres and cinemas can also have a great contribution to the economic development because most of the foreign peopel visit india to watch the cultural acts and traditional way of living.

To conclude, in my opinion, theaters and cinemas should do more promotional acts to bring people attention back. However, younge people are watching online content because of the new platforms and new entertainment are presented by these application.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views required by the prompt and presents a clear personal opinion. The writer discusses the shift towards online streaming platforms due to technological advancements and convenience, while also acknowledging the economic and cultural significance of theatres and cinemas. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on economic and cultural contributions mentions foreign visitors to India, but the explanation is brief and under-developed. Furthermore, the conclusion introduces a new idea regarding promotional acts rather than effectively summarising the main points. Consequently, the response aligns best with the Band 6 descriptors, as all parts are addressed with relevant ideas, but some areas lack sufficient extension.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a generally coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is occasionally hindered by faulty cohesive devices and referencing issues. For example, expressions like 'The growing trend about the online movies' and 'Back in days' lack fluency and disrupt the logical flow. Additionally, transitions between sentences can feel mechanical, and referencing pronouns such as 'these are the platforms' are slightly repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes, but the overall mechanical nature of cohesive devices places this response securely at Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic arguments about digital platforms versus traditional cinemas. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, such as 'theartes', 'at their comfort zone', 'every differnt individuals', and 'bring people attention back'. The student attempts less common vocabulary, including terms like 'advancement of technology' and 'economic development', but spelling mistakes ('Netfilx', 'theartes', 'cultrual') and word-choice inaccuracies occur frequently. These errors do not entirely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at subordinate clauses, such as 'It is because of the advancement of technology that provide people with...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('technology that provide', 'content he consumes'), missing articles ('hold the importance'), and incorrect prepositions. Punctuation errors are also present, including a missing space after a full stop in the first paragraph. While the meaning is generally retrievable despite the frequent errors, the lack of error-free complex sentences means the performance falls into the Band 5.0 category.
