Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response addresses the prompt by attempting to discuss both views regarding the importance of cinemas and theatres and provides a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is severely limited due to the under-length of the text, which contains only 175 words against the required 250 words. Concepts such as the economic and cultural impacts mentioned in the prompt are barely touched upon, and the reasoning is often underdeveloped or unclear, as seen in the vague assertion that cinemas prevent us from forgetting to meet our loved ones. Furthermore, the position is sometimes obscured by confusing phrasing. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, leading to a band score of 4.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression and overall coherence are heavily disrupted by faulty referencing and abrupt transitions. Sentences such as 'there are that Nevertheless they do not both do not use all this time' are virtually incomprehensible and lack cohesive ties. While some basic connectors like 'By Contrast' and 'In my opinion' are used, referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of argument. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, warranting a band score of 4.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The lexical resource is limited and basic. The student relies on simple, repetitive vocabulary such as 'digital era', 'entertainment', and 'important'. There are several noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'watch the all entertainment material', 'cinema and theatres become old fashion', and 'make a fake news'. These errors and the restricted vocabulary range mean the language is minimally adequate at best, causing some difficulty for the reader and restricting the score to a 4.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that are heavily flawed. There are frequent, pervasive errors in grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure throughout the text, such as 'others says that', 'no one can not use them', and 'if cinemas & theatres not existed we do not remembered'. These persistent errors frequently distort meaning and make parts of the text extremely difficult to parse. This corresponds to the descriptors for a band score of 4.0.
