Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address all parts of the task by discussing both views—the rise of online entertainment and the economic/cultural importance of cinemas—while also giving a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times confusing, particularly in the introduction where the writer states: 'I disagree with the view of importance's because the ticket prices become costly and not reliable .Although, I agree with view due to the advancement in technology and quality persons watch movies online.' This presents a somewhat contradictory or muddled stance on the prompt. While some main ideas are put forward regarding online streaming, such as YouTube quality and cost-saving, they lack deep extension and are occasionally obscured by expression issues. The task is addressed partially, aligning closely with Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, providing a basic structure. However, the overall progression is hampered by awkward transitions and confusing statements, such as starting the conclusion with 'while the benefits of technology... some still feel... However, as long as we admire the digital era the benefits are clearly positive.' Cohesive devices are used, but sometimes inaccurately or mechanically, as seen with 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand,' which are misapplied since both paragraphs essentially argue against the importance of physical cinemas rather than presenting balanced opposing views. Paragraphing is present, but logical sequencing within paragraphs requires better referencing and discourse markers to achieve a smoother flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical resource is limited and displays frequent errors in word choice and word formation. Examples include 'few individual suggest' instead of individuals, 'monitor online,' 'importance's,' and 'comfortableness.' The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'advancement in technology' and 'dramatically increases,' but these are often marred by grammatical inaccuracies or awkward collocations. Spelling and word formation issues recur throughout the text, which occasionally impedes the reader's understanding. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary and exercise greater accuracy in word form and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writing exhibits a limited range of sentence structures, with frequent grammatical errors that often cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('theatres and cinemas are still retain'), pluralisation ('few individual suggest'), and tense usage ('the ticket cost are dramatically increases'). Complex sentence attempts often contain structural flaws, such as 'For example, YouTube express unlimited movies like (horror, love and funny) in different languages with captions and in advanced quality upto1080p60.' Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent throughout the text. These frequent errors place the grammar score firmly at Band 5.0.
