Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the decline of theatres and cinemas due to online entertainment and their ongoing economic and cultural importance, while also stating a personal position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and uneven. For instance, the economic point mentions that theaters 'gains a a lot of profit' and funds can be allocated elsewhere, but this is left rather brief and underdeveloped. The final paragraph trails off incomplete, which prevents the discussion from reaching a fully rounded conclusion. Despite these limitations, the central themes of the prompt are recognized and addressed throughout the response, placing it securely within the mid-range for task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
Paragraphing is attempted, though some paragraphs are fragmented or abruptly constructed, such as the second paragraph which consists of only two sentences, the second of which is a hanging dependent clause ('If cinemas and theatres are introduced in every corner of the country.'). Cohesive devices are used, but sometimes inaccurately or mechanically, such as 'In one side of argument' and 'Despite above argument'. The logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and sentence fragments. Furthermore, referencing is at times unclear, and the text ends abruptly without a proper concluding sentence. These factors indicate a need for greater control over organizational structures and cohesive relationships between ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates a minimally adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully communicating everyday ideas related to technology and entertainment. Less common vocabulary items are attempted, such as 'cultural heritage', 'cost-effective', and 'Underprivileged', but usage is often accompanied by noticeable errors in word formation or collocation, such as 'entertaiment', 'budget friendly cost', and 'sky high'. There are also several spelling and typographical errors throughout the text ('effeciently', 'thier', 'online' joined without spaces). While the meaning is generally clear despite these lexical shortcomings, the precision required for higher band scores is not consistently sustained.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response shows a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. Frequent errors occur, including subject-verb agreement issues ('theatres run', 'opinion has'), article omissions ('in digital age', 'in financial state of state'), and tense or auxiliary mistakes ('movies online is can be instant', 'don't have to went outside'). Punctuation is also problematic, with spaces misplaced around hyphens ('cost - effective') and periods attached incorrectly to words. Complex structures frequently contain errors, which can occasionally cause difficulty or hesitation for the reader, though the core meaning usually remains decipherable.
