Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays in a modern world, majority of the population think that going to movies and entertainment theatres not necessary because of the online streaming platforms and others think that it could destroy the film industry economy and cultural cinematic experience.

Firstly, as generations are updating their lives and people are becoming more advanced and they are mainly focusing on easily available options. Nowadays multiple online streaming platforms like Amazon Prime, Netflix and Youtube platforms were significantly dominating the film industry and attracting the younger generations by offering prime discounts and lower prices on subscriptions. It could not only destroys the film industry culture but also damaging the economy for the industry.

Secondly, some people argue that cinemas and theatre experience is still important because watching high definition 3D or 4D format movies and high quality sound experience can only be find in theatres. A real film can only experience in well developed and advanced theatres. We cannot feel and enjoy the quality and sound experience in online streaming platforms. Moreover, watching films in theatres could helps to generate extra income and used for industry labour livelihood and significantly increases the economy of industry, helps to protect the cultural diversity of the movies.

I strongly support that, watching movies in theatre is the only option which could give the real experience of the film, helps to generate the economy, useful for many industry workers as livelihood and It could benefit the artist and film directors to do more films and encourages the actors to work well in the industry.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that cinemas are no longer important due to online streaming, and that they remain economically and culturally vital. The student also presents a clear personal opinion in both the introduction and conclusion. However, the ideas are somewhat repetitive and under-developed, particularly regarding the economic and cultural impacts. For instance, the argument that streaming 'destroys the film industry culture' is stated without deep elaboration, and the conclusion largely restates previous points rather than synthesizing them. While all prompt requirements are met, the depth of discussion aligns best with Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, beginning with an introduction, followed by two body paragraphs discussing the opposing views and a concluding opinion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'Moreover' are used to structure the text, although some transitional elements feel mechanical. Referencing is occasionally slightly unclear, such as pronoun use in 'and used for industry labour livelihood'. Overall, the logical progression is sufficient to meet the Band 6 descriptor, where information is arranged coherently even though cohesion can occasionally be faulty or repetitive.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'streaming platforms', 'cultural diversity', and 'subscription'. There are several word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'cinemas and theatre experience is still important' instead of 'are still important', and 'labour livelihood' instead of 'livelihood of workers'. Attempts at less common vocabulary are visible, but inaccuracies in form and collocation (e.g., 'updates their lives' instead of 'modernise their lifestyles') place this response firmly at Band 6, where the vocabulary is adequate but contains noticeable errors that do not impede overall communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though complex structures frequently contain errors. Examples of grammatical inaccuracies include 'majority of the population think' (subject-verb agreement), 'theatres and cinemas no longer important' (missing verb), and 'could helps to generate' (modal verb error). Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent throughout. While these errors do not impede communication, their frequency across complex structures prevents the essay from reaching Band 7. The control of grammar aligns well with the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range, warranting a score of 6.0 due to the successful communication of meaning despite frequent slips.
