Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people hold the belief that in this digital age, the significance of theatres and cinemas is not anymore as individuals can watch all the shows online. While others averse to it and believe that these sources still plays a vital role in cultural and economical aspect. However, I agree with the latter view.
At the outset, the most plausible reason from my perspective is the essence of experience. The people went to cinemas to fully experiencing the movie, the characters ,the songs and the music. These are some factors that makes a movie impactful and also with these , director can show his cultural or social views. When people watch the films in cinemas or theatres ,they are immersed in the movie and can understand the significance of the objective of a movie. Thus, it is very important for providing profound cultural impact on the community. Additionally ,the economical significance can not be neglected. The finance needed in the production of a movie are covered by the income of these theatres and cinemas. If these sources are no longer available the movie industries will face losses and the viewers might not get the wonderful movies that can have beneficial impact on the society. For instance, if a director spent 10,00,000 on a movie ,he can remake such movies only if he recovered his cost spent on that movie.
However, some people may consider that going to the theatre is a waste of time and energy .If people can watch the movies online ,why they should spend money and commute for watching films in cinemas.Nonetheless, it a wise decision to spent a little amount on movies, once in a while. The experience of watching the movies in the theatres is worth spending the money .The little things such as getting ready, commuting to theatre with loves ones ,watching movies with dim lighting makes us feel amazing and this feeling is worth paying.
In Conclusion, I understand why some people think in such a way though, I believe that these sources of entertainment are still relavant in this digital era due its economical and cultural significance.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that cinemas are obsolete due to online viewing, and that they remain economically and culturally vital—while clearly stating the writer's own opinion in favour of the latter. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as discussing the emotional and immersive experience of a shared cinema audience and the financial recovery needed for film production. Although some arguments verge on generalisation, the position is clear throughout, and the main ideas are well-supported. The writer demonstrates a clear understanding of the task requirements and covers all components required for a Band 7 score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organised into four paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs representing different aspects of the debate or supporting arguments, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used throughout, such as 'At the outset', 'Additionally', and 'However', which help guide the reader through the progression of ideas. However, paragraphing and referencing occasionally feel slightly mechanical, and transitions could be smoother. For example, the sentence structure in the second body paragraph features minor cohesion slips like 'Nonetheless, it a wise decision'. Overall, there is a clear logical progression, placing this essay comfortably at a Band 6.5 to 7.0 range, warranting a solid Band 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'immersed', 'profound cultural impact', 'economical significance', and 'relavant'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and spelling errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'averse to it' (instead of adversaries argue), 'economical' instead of 'economic', and spelling slips like 'relavant'. Despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary used is sufficient to communicate the main arguments clearly, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at complex structures such as conditional and relative clauses ('If these sources are no longer available the movie industries will face losses...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues throughout, including missing articles ('went to cinemas to fully experiencing', 'commuting to theatre'), incorrect verb forms ('is not anymore', 'still plays'), and missing words ('Nonetheless, it a wise decision to spent'). While these errors do not severely impede communication, they persist across the text, which is characteristic of the Band 6 level.
