Student answer (Band 5.0)

This essay argues that few people consider theatres and cinemas to be less significant due to the advancement of digital technology, as the public can watch all entertainment online. While others view them as a source of cultural promotion and also consider them important from an economic point of view. I believe a balanced approach is needed here. Cinemas and theatres still have relevance in the modern era.

People who support the view that cinemas and theatres no longer contribute to their purpose argue that it is more convenient for people to watch all the content online through their digital devices. They consider it a waste of time and money to go outside to cinemas and theatres.

On the other hand, people who consider that cinema and theatres have significance argue that these are the source of cultural promotion as theatres can offer a wide range of programs and entertainmnet that s relevent ot the cultural history of that specific regoing and it is a great opportunity for trousit to know the culture of any country, another inportant signifinace is that cinemas oofr a financail benfits and offer an empolyment opportunities to lots of people. when we discourage masses from going to cinema we basicallt tend to restrict the job opportunities for people

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to discuss both views regarding the relevance of theatres and cinemas in the digital age and includes the writer's opinion. However, the ideas are quite brief and lack full development. Furthermore, the Length Check indicates that the response contains only 224 words, failing to meet the minimum requirement of 250 words. This under-length impacts task achievement significantly as the arguments cannot be fully explored. The student touches upon convenience online, cultural promotion, and economic benefits, but these points remain somewhat superficial due to the restricted word count and lack of supporting examples. Therefore, it aligns best with Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some overall organization with an introductory paragraph, body paragraphs addressing different viewpoints, and a concluding stance. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. For instance, the final thoughts are disjointed, and the capitalization in the last paragraph indicates erratic control over paragraph structure. Cohesive devices are minimal or inadequately used to guide the reader smoothly between ideas. Paragraphing is also disrupted, with the concluding remarks and final statements failing to form a cohesive, unified wrap-up. These issues place the response firmly at Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'advancement of digital technology', 'convenient', and 'financial benefits'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'entertainmnet', 'relevent', 'ot', 'regoing', 'trousit', 'inportant', 'signifinace', 'oofr', 'financail', 'empolyment', and 'basicallt'. These numerous lexical and spelling errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and prevent the score from reaching a higher band, making Band 4.5 or 5 appropriate. Given the positive marking policy, a score of 5.0 is awarded for achieving minimal adequacy despite the flaws.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures often result in errors. For example, the opening sentence is excessively long and tangled: 'This essay argues that few people consider theatres and cinemas to be less significant due to the advancement of digital technology, as the public can watch all entertainment online.' Additionally, there are punctuation and capitalization issues, most notably the entire final sentence being written in capital letters ('i STRONGLY EBLEIVE THAT WE SHOUD encourage the cinemas and theatrs'). Frequent grammatical errors and typos can cause difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar performance at a Band 5 level.
