Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the view that cinemas and theatres are no longer important due to online entertainment, and the counter-argument regarding their economic and cultural significance. The student also presents a personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the points about online safety ('not secure for the childrens') and isolation are raised briefly without deep exploration. Similarly, the economic and cultural points in the third paragraph are stated simply without strong supporting examples. This places the response comfortably at Band 5.5, as it meets the basic task requirements but lacks full extension and depth of ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay has a basic organizational structure with clear introductory and concluding remarks, and attempts at logical paragraphing. However, progression is hindered by awkward transitional phrases such as 'Firstly in digital age', 'After that', and 'In additionally', which feel mechanical rather than natural. Paragraph boundaries are observed, but the internal flow of ideas is disjointed, particularly in the body paragraphs where sentences jump abruptly between different sub-points without smooth bridging. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as 'that is added on the economy'. These features align with Band 5.0, where organization is visible but overall progression is lacking and cohesive devices are frequently inaccurate or awkward.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on everyday terms like 'entertainment', 'movies', and 'cost'. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'threatres' (spelling), 'watching entertainment' instead of 'viewing entertainment', 'adult side on underage', and 'memorable memories' (which is tautological). While the student attempts less common expressions like 'economically and culturally', inaccuracies in lexical control prevent the response from achieving a higher band. The vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic meaning despite the errors, which justifies a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but attempts at complexity frequently result in grammatical errors. Examples include 'few people don't want cinemas' (meaning issues), 'if there are threatres and cinemas in this digital age than person can spend', and 'if the person always using his phone or computer so he will be disconnect'. Errors in subject-verb agreement, articles ('the childrens', 'the economy'), and prepositions are frequent and occasionally cause strain for the reader. While basic sentence forms are controlled, the density of structural inaccuracies places the grammar score at Band 5.0, as errors are common and can impede smooth communication.
