Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response falls significantly short of the required 250-word minimum, containing only 81 words and ending abruptly mid-sentence ("an"). Because the essay is incomplete, it cannot fully discuss both views or provide a fully developed personal opinion as instructed. It touches upon the decline of cinema due to digital platforms and their cultural and economic significance, but these ideas remain severely underdeveloped. Consequently, the task is only addressed in a minimal fashion, which heavily constrains the task achievement score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The text consists of a single run-on sentence without proper paragraphing or logical progression. The ideas are linked by comma splices and basic conjunctions like "moreover" rather than effective cohesive devices. Because the response is unfinished and lacks structural organisation, it does not demonstrate coherent overall arrangement. However, the writer does attempt to connect the contrasting viewpoints initially, showing a basic awareness of how to structure an argument before the text trails off.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts some moderately advanced vocabulary, such as "significance," "substantial number," and "influence in the economy." However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as "most people argued that the cinema business declined" (tense mismatch) and "cinemas still holds it position" (subject-verb agreement and pronoun reference error). The range of vocabulary is limited and repeated attempts at less common phrasing are hindered by inaccuracy and the incomplete nature of the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The writing relies heavily on complex structures joined improperly with commas, leading to fused sentences and comma splices. There are basic grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ("cinemas still holds") and a lack of proper punctuation, resulting in a single lengthy and unpunctuated block of text that terminates mid-sentence. The range of structures is limited by the brevity of the response, and frequent structural control issues impede the flow of meaning.
