Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, the technology usage is being increased among the people due to easily accessible of personal needs through internet. Nowadays, Some people believe that theatres and cinemas are no longer essential for the people as they can watch the desire shows on online. Others argue that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. This essay will discuss both sides of the argument.

On the one hand, most the people are giving preference to watch the shows or entertainment through online because people think that going to threatres can take a lot time in travelling. In addition, the tickets of the cinemas are more expensive so some people can't afford it. Despite going to theaters, people usually prefer watching online which is cheaper and also they can watch it on their convinient time. The people who need some privacy can be aquire by watching at home instead of theaters. These reasons can effect the theatres and cinema which become less important to the people.

On the other hand, Despite of increased in the usage of technology, the theaters and cinemas are still important for both economically and culturally. One of the most significant reason is theaters attract the people which increase the economy of the country. They can release more movies at theaters if they got benefit through people. Immigrations can bring the more traditional culture like food, language, clothes to the country. Moreover, directors can generate new ideas through different culture of people which give them a huge attration towards theaters.

To sum up, while some believe that theaters and cinemas are no longer important, other argues that it is still important for both economically and culturally. From my perspective, I firmly believe theatres are still important due to some people always prefer to watch at threaters which increase the economy. In traditional time, the people want the big screen to watch movies so they follow this tradtional cultural in this modern era.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the decline of theatres due to online streaming and their ongoing economic and cultural importance—and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on the economic and cultural benefits includes slightly confusing or disconnected points, such as 'Immigrations can bring the more traditional culture like food, language, clothes to the country.' While the main positions are identifiable, the arguments would benefit from deeper extension and more precise examples. Overall, the response fulfills the basic requirements of the task, earning a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is divided into a clear four-paragraph structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in awkward transitions like 'Despite going to theaters, people usually prefer watching online...' and repetitive phrasing in the conclusion. Paragraphing is adequate, but the logical progression within the second body paragraph is occasionally disrupted by abrupt shifts in ideas regarding immigration and directors. This points to a Band 6.0 level of coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate to the topic, including terms like 'economically and culturally', 'entertainment', and 'traditional culture'. However, there are frequent word choice and collocation errors that detract from precision, such as 'technology usage is being increased', 'easily accessible of personal needs', 'watch the desire shows on online', and 'give them a huge attration towards theaters'. Spelling errors are also present, such as 'threatres' and 'convinient'. While the vocabulary is adequate to convey the general message, these persistent inaccuracies cap the lexical score at a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure. However, grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the text, featuring frequent errors in verb tense, voice, and prepositions. Examples include 'the technology usage is being increased', 'the tickets of the cinemas are more expensive so some people can't afford it', 'These reasons can effect the theatres', and 'other argues that it is still important'. Passive and active voice constructions are often confused, and article misuse is common. Because these errors occur frequently and occasionally impede smooth reading, the grammar aligns with a Band 5.0.
