Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the dominance and convenience of online streaming versus the economic and cultural importance of traditional cinemas and theatres—and provides a clear personal opinion. Ideas are generally relevant, such as the cost-effectiveness and comfort of home viewing contrasted with employment generation and cultural preservation. However, some arguments are somewhat under-developed and rely on over-generalised statements. For instance, the claim that online portals are 'public first choice' lacks deeper exploration. Furthermore, there are some minor confusing overlaps, such as listing circus or dance under cinema and movie theaters. Nevertheless, a clear position is maintained throughout and all prompt requirements are met, aligning with the Band 6 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs addressing each viewpoint, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct ideas, although the transitions between sentences can be abrupt. Cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'On one hand', 'Neverthless', and 'Taking everything into account', but referencing and linking are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, phrases like 'due to it has many advantages' and 'If we bored so we easily quite that movie' disrupt the logical flow and cohesion within sentences. Paragraphing is adequate, but the overall progression of ideas sometimes stumbles due to grammatical and lexical hurdles.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical resource displays an adequate range for the task, but vocabulary is heavily impacted by frequent spelling errors, word-form mistakes, and lexical inaccuracies. The student attempts less common vocabulary such as 'commercially', 'convenient', and 'preservation', but makes frequent errors including 'conviced' instead of convinced, 'extreamely', 'planty', 'afordable', 'quite' instead of quit, 'Neverthless', 'knowladge', and repeating the typographical error 'screaming' instead of streaming throughout the essay. These errors do not entirely impede communication as the intended meaning can usually be deduced, but they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some awareness of subordination and relative clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors occurring across almost every sentence. Examples include missing auxiliary verbs ('movie theater and cinema has no significant important'), incorrect verb forms ('a person watch movie', 'we watch movies... any corner'), tense confusion, and preposition misuse. Punctuation errors, such as spaces placed before commas and periods throughout the text, are also prevalent. While the message is mostly understood, the high frequency of grammatical inaccuracies means that error-free sentences are the exception rather than the majority, placing this response firmly at Band 5.0.
