Student answer (Band 5.0)

Many people stand with the statement that, theatres and cinemas are no longer crucial as public can view them all in online when they want. While crities maintain that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. In my opinion, i agree that theatres and cinemas are both important for economical and cultural values.

It is true that now movies can be watched when ever people want in online by paying for a subcription. Beside this, going to theatres for watching movies is difficult to some people. For example, if anyone want to watch a cinema or a movie they can watch it home on sites such as Netfliex, Amazon movies etc while staying at their home, staying cozy and comfort.

However, it is true that theatres and cinemas are important because they both contributes in our country economy. Also, cinemas are culturally connected with our society and people. For instance, if a new movie release people would go to theatre to watch it. By this they will use local rickshow and other cars and it will create opportunities for local people. And the people connected with theatres and movies will get money from this. Also our elder citizen will feel like they are in their old days when they were young.

To sum up, threatres are surely crucial for our economy because it contribute alot.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student addresses both views regarding the importance of theatres and cinemas in the digital age, and presents a clear personal opinion in the introduction. However, the response falls short of the minimum length requirement, containing only 228 words instead of the required 250 words. This under-length severely limits the development of ideas. While the arguments concerning online streaming versus economic and cultural contributions are introduced, they lack sufficient depth and expansion. For instance, the discussion on economic impact touches briefly on local transport and job opportunities, but these points are underdeveloped and overly simplistic. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, which caps the score for Task Achievement at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay attempts a four-paragraph structure, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, showing some basic organization. However, overall progression is weak. The second body paragraph shifts abruptly between ideas, such as movie releases, local transportation, and older citizens, without smooth transitions. Cohesive devices are repetitive and sometimes awkward, as seen in the frequent use of 'Also' and 'For instance'. Paragraphing is also disrupted by the brevity of the conclusion, which is only a single short sentence. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'view them all in online'. These issues place the response solidly at Band 5.0 for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate vocabulary for the task, using terms such as 'digital age', 'subcription', and 'economical and cultural values'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'crities' for critics, 'in online' for online, 'Netfliex' for Netflix, and 'threatres' for theatres. Collocations are occasionally unnatural, such as 'stand with the statement' and 'contributes in our country economy'. The range of vocabulary is restricted, and attempts at less common words result in frequent inaccuracies that cause some difficulty for the reader, aligning with Band 5.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, using conditional and subordinate clauses (e.g., 'if anyone want to watch a cinema...'). However, control over grammar is weak, leading to frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('anyone want', 'movie release'), punctuation, and preposition usage ('staying at their home'). There are also awkward word order choices and fragmented sentence structures. These errors require the reader to decode the meaning in several places, which is characteristic of Band 5.0 performance.
