Student answer (Band 6.0)

Technology advancements has fundatmentally changed how people choose to consume films, plays and performances. While some people argue that in the sparkling era of digital you can access all media through online, others believe that these venues are significantly important for the economic and traditional values. This essay will discuss both perspectives before giving my opinion.

On one hand, it is argued that theatres and cinemas have lost much of their relevance in digital world because online platforms offer much more conveninence and affordability. For instance, the online entertainment tools such as Netflix or amazon prime provides you all kind of pleasure in a whole package, however, you do not have to waste your money on traditional play venues rathar than you can just have the access in one place comfortably and without excessive cost. Consequently, online media just overtook the cultural venues in a most reliable and convenient way.

On the other hand, many people maintain that cinemas and theatres continue to plays a vital role in the economy and culture of a society. For example, these venues employ staff like technicians, actors and performers and supports nearby businesses such as resturants, parking and retail services and by closing these can hurt the economic growth. Similarly, live performances offers something streaming cannot replicate at home like liveness and environment, so that could be essential to maintain traditional values.

In conclusion, while online entertainment offers affordability and convenience, theatres and cinemas provide a sense of cultural and econmic importance. In my opnion, both sides of enterntainment can coexist, as they serves different purposes and appeal to different audience needs.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on the importance of theatres and cinemas in the digital age, and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are generally well-developed and supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of online streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime, as well as the economic impact on local businesses and employment. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in the second paragraph with phrasing like 'online media just overtook the cultural venues in a most reliable and convenient way,' which prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Overall, the task is successfully and fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, beginning with a standard introductory paragraph, followed by well-defined body paragraphs introduced by cohesive markers such as 'On one hand' and 'On the other hand', and concluding with a summary statement. Cohesive devices are used appropriately, though there are minor mechanical instances, such as the clumsy transitional phrasing in the second paragraph ('rathar than you can just have the access'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring the overall progression of ideas is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'fundatmentally' (spelled incorrectly as fundatmentally), 'sparkling era', and 'cultural venues'. While there is an attempt at precision, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'conveninence', 'rathar', 'resturants', and 'opnion'. Furthermore, some collocations are awkward, such as 'streaming cannot replicate at home like liveness and environment'. Nevertheless, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the meaning, and errors do not seriously impede communication, fitting the Band 6 profile.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with good control demonstrated in sentences like 'While some people argue that in the sparkling era of digital you can access all media through online, others believe that these venues are significantly important...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and slips, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Technology advancements has', 'theatres and cinemas continue to plays', 'live performances offers', 'as they serves') and prepositional usage. Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while the errors persist, they rarely impede overall communication, supporting a solid Band 6 score.
