Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued by some people that in this digital era, where all the movies are available on different OTT platforms. There is no longer need of cinemas and theatres. But some people believe that cinemas not only play a vital role in the economy but also an important aspect of their culture. However, I strongly believe that cinemas and theatres should be promoted as they contribute in the local economy.

On the one hand, all the movies are available on the internet and are very easy to access. Most of the movies are available on different OTT platforms such as: Netflix, Primevideo, etc. Although they are paid applications but they provide access to all the movies listed out there. Take an example of HBO, they have different subscription plans usually like 10$ monthly. But the main highlight is that it can be accessed at any time of the day. Therefore, movies can be watched at home and tere is no need of theatres or cinemas.

On the other hand, initially all the new movies can only be played in cinemas and then later it would be available on internet. Most of the earning of a movie came from cinemas box-office. It help to boost our economy as the movies played all over the world. It is a reflexation of the culture which can be presented all over the world. For instance, in India only movies played in cinemas and theatres can contribute 11% in their economy. Thus, cinemas not only support the local economy but also present the culture.

However, I believe that that cinemas should be promoted as most of the movies earning depend on it and it also support and present the culture internationally.

To sum up, cinemas and theatres may not be much usefull but they play an important role in society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—the decline of cinemas due to online platforms and their continuing economic and cultural importance—and provides a clear personal opinion. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, some ideas are a bit repetitive and under-developed, such as the general claims about economic contribution without deeper elaboration. For instance, the mention of India contributing 11% is a specific and relevant example, but the reasoning surrounding how theatres achieve this could be expanded further. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting comfortably into Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with logical progression. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the introduction, two body paragraphs, a brief counter-view, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'However', but some referencing is faulty or mechanical. For example, starting a sentence with a dependent clause fragment ('where all the movies are available on different OTT platforms. There is no longer need...') disrupts sentence-level cohesion. Furthermore, terms like 'tere' and punctuation errors mildly distract from the flow, pointing towards a Band 6 level.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'OTT platforms', 'subscription plans', and 'local economy'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'earning' instead of 'earnings', 'came' instead of 'come', 'reflexation' instead of 'reflection', and 'usefull' with a spelling error. While less common vocabulary is attempted, the inaccuracies and spelling mistakes prevent the response from reaching Band 7. Communication is generally not impeded, aligning well with Band 6 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional and transitional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues throughout the text. Examples include sentence fragments ('where all the movies are available on different OTT platforms. There is no longer need...'), subject-verb agreement issues ('Most of the earning of a movie came...', 'movies played all over the world... It help'), and typographical errors ('tere'). Because these errors persist and occur frequently across different sentence structures, the grammar aligns best with Band 5.0.
