Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is argue widely, in this digital era, people prefer online entertainment over visiting theatres and cinemas, while some believes that, they still hold importance culturally and economically.

First of all, in todays modern world internet and cable bring a great change in entertainment industries. People no longer need to visit cinema to watch any movie or a play. Young generation prefer ease over difficulties. For instance its difficult to stand in the long que to purchase tickets and manage time according to show time. This is time consuming and hectic for many peoples. Secondly, now individuals can watch any new movie at any time with friends and family sitting comfortably in their houses. Previously, facility of internet was not available people were bound to visit theaters to watch their favorite show.

On the other hand, movie theatres play a huge role in culture representation and economic growth. As, tax generated from these industries help in the economy, which can be used in education and healthcare sector. Furthermore, Movie houses are one of the way to present culture and tradition to others. If young generation show their interest towards theatres, film makers will produce more films and generate revenue. when local people give preference to opera house, tourist also perfect to visit and learn about the culture through movies.

In my opinion, in todays world, where physical activities and interaction is limited. People should visit cinemas occasionally, as this will increase social interaction and create a bound between strangers. This will effect economy positively.

To conclude, digitalization minimize importance of theatres and movie houses. They still hold importance in economy growth and culture development. It hold the great importance in social interaction.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—the decline of theatres due to online entertainment and their ongoing cultural and economic importance—and provides a clear personal opinion. The arguments are generally relevant, but some ideas are slightly under-developed or repetitive, such as the discussion on social interaction and economic growth. For instance, the point that 'tax generated from these industries help in the economy' is valid but lacks deeper extension. The candidate covers the required viewpoints effectively enough to meet the criteria for a Band 6.0, as all parts of the task are addressed, though the depth of idea extension could be more fully realised.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay presents a clear overall arrangement with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing both sides and the personal view, and a brief concluding paragraph. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First of all', 'Secondly', and 'On the other hand', but some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, like 'As, tax generated...'. Paragraphing is utilized, although the conclusion is quite brief. Referencing is generally clear, but occasional minor cohesion slips prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Overall, the logical progression is maintained throughout, fitting the Band 6.0 descriptor well.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'entertainment industries', 'digitalization', and 'cultural representation'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, as seen in phrases like 'It is argue widely', 'peoples', and 'tourist also perfect to visit'. Spelling errors ('todays', 'que', 'effect' instead of 'affect') and grammatical word form issues also appear. Despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without severely impeding communication, placing the response firmly at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('some believes', 'digitalization minimize'), missing articles ('in todays modern world', 'in economy growth'), and punctuation errors. For instance, the opening sentence contains structural awkwardness ('It is argue widely, in this digital era, people prefer...'). While complex structures are attempted, they are often faulty, and the high frequency of basic errors causes some difficulty for the reader, which aligns with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
