Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to discuss both views regarding the importance of theatres and cinemas versus online entertainment, and it provides a personal opinion in the final paragraphs. However, the ideas are quite limited, repetitive, and under-developed. For instance, the student mentions that cinemas support the economy and local businesses, but does not extend or support this point with specific examples or explanations. Furthermore, the discussion shifts abruptly into general arguments about social media rather than focusing strictly on the prompt's comparison between cinemas/theatres and watching entertainment online. The position is clear, but the development of ideas remains rather basic. This places the response in Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays some basic organizational structure, dividing the text into paragraphs representing different viewpoints and a conclusion. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression and logical flow between sentences. Cohesive devices are either missing or used inaccurately, such as the sudden transition using 'on the other hand, world is changing into global village.' Furthermore, paragraphing is unconventional, with some single-sentence paragraphs and no clear introduction or concluding structure. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the text suffers from a lack of smooth signposting, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument seamlessly. These features correspond to a Band 5 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on everyday words like 'things', 'everything', 'people', and 'good'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'making life of people easier then usuall', 'increase of our economy', and 'gives old vibes'. While the writer attempts some less common phrasing like 'global village' and 'basic need', these are often used inaccurately or inappropriately in context. Spelling mistakes and capitalization errors ('on the other hand, world') are also present, meaning the range is limited and minimally adequate. This performance aligns with Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences ('We give time to our family, friends and others.', 'They just sit comfortably and enjoy everything.'). Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, characterized by missing articles ('World is entering in modern era.'), incorrect prepositions ('in today's busy era'), and punctuation errors like missing spaces after commas and periods. Frequent grammatical errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from achieving a higher score. Overall, the grammatical control is consistent with Band 5.
