Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is argue widely, in this digital era, that people prefer online entertainment over visiting theatres and cinemas, while some believes that, they still hold importance culturally and economically.

First of all, in todays modern world internet and cable have brought a great change in entertainment industries. People no longer need to visit cinema to watch any a movie or a play. The young generation prefers ease over difficulties. For instance it's difficult to stand in long queues to purchase tickets and manage time according to show time. This is time consuming and hectic for many people. Secondly, now individuals can watch any new movie at any time with friends and family sitting comfortably in their houses. Previously, the facility of internet was not available people were bound to visit theaters to watch their favorite show.

On the other hand, movie theatres play a huge role in cultural representation and economic growth. As, tax generated from these industries helps in the economy, which can be used in education and healthcare sector. Furthermore, Movie houses are one of the ways to present culture and tradition to others. If the young generation shows their interest towards theatres, film makers will produce more films and generate revenue. When local people give preference to opera house, tourist also prefer to visit and learn about the culture through movies.

In my opinion, in today's world, where physical activities and interactions are limited, people should visit cinemas occasionally, as this will increase social interaction and create a bond between strangers. This will affect economy positively.

To conclude, digitalization minimize the importance of theatres and movie houses. They still hold importance in economic growth and culture development. It holds the great importance in social interaction.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both the decline of theatres due to online entertainment and their ongoing cultural and economic importance. The writer also presents a clear personal opinion regarding social interaction. Ideas are generally relevant, but some points lack full extension and development, particularly the economic arguments. For example, the statement that tax generated from these industries helps the economy is a valid point, but it is not expanded with specific details or clear examples. The position is maintained throughout the essay, but the depth of support places this response securely at Band 6. To reach a higher band, the writer should ensure that all main ideas are supported with more thorough explanations and concrete examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate different aspects of the prompt, grouping ideas into logical sections. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by mechanical or faulty cohesive devices. For instance, the transition 'First of all, in todays modern world internet and cable have brought...' introduces the first body paragraph, but subsequent linking relies heavily on basic sequencing words like 'Secondly' and 'Furthermore'. There are also instances where referencing is slightly unclear or abrupt. Overall, the organizational structure is adequate for the task and meets the requirements for a Band 6 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'cultural representation', 'economic growth', and 'digital era'. However, there are notable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word formation throughout the text. Examples include 'It is argue widely' instead of 'It is widely argued', 'some believes' instead of 'some believe', and 'digitalization minimize' instead of 'digitalization minimizes'. Furthermore, terms like 'opera house' are used loosely to mean movie theatres. While these lexical errors do not seriously impede communication, their frequency prevents the score from rising above Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, demonstrating some ability to form subordinate clauses, such as in the sentence 'People no longer need to visit cinema to watch any a movie or a play.' However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and article usage. Notable errors include 'watch any a movie' (unnecessary article), 'Previously, the facility of internet was not available people were bound' (run-on sentence), and 'tourist also prefer' (pluralization error). Punctuation is also occasionally mishandled, such as unnecessary commas separating subjects and verbs. These errors require some effort from the reader to interpret, aligning the writing with the Band 5 descriptor.
