Student answer (Band 5.5)
Certain groups of poulation believe that cenimas and theatre are not as important , in this world of social media and you tube,as they were before.while others debate on their importance both economically and socially. In my view these parts of entertainment insustry are still as important as they were before.
Those who are against the big screen and theatre say that the tickets are expensive and time cosumption is more. Nowadays everyone is so busy that they dont have time to watch a three hour long film or a theatre drama.Young ones can watch the same thing online in the comfort of their home without spending much and under strict survillence of parents. For example the statistics show the falling viewership of film industry over the past few years.
On the other hand the people like me still enjoy being in cinema watching a movie with all those speakers on and no disturbances like at home. The aura of larger screen makes you go deep into writers ideas. As far as the theatre is concerned the best actors are being produced their. As there are no retakes or cuts you can enjoy the live performances. It is always good to spend some money to enjoy the actors of your own choice.
To conclude,Alghough people are to busy to go to the cinemas,I believe that if you have to justice to a drama or a film you should go and watch it on the big screen and take the feel of music on good speakers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the view that cinemas are obsolete in the digital age and the opposing view that they remain economically and culturally important, while also clearly stating the writer's own opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and lacks robust elaboration or specific real-world examples. For instance, the mention of statistics showing falling viewership is unsupported by any specific detail. The ideas remain slightly generalised and brief. Consequently, the performance aligns best with Band 6, where all parts are addressed with relevant ideas, but some parts are under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression and covers all necessary stages of a discursive essay, including an introduction, body paragraphs representing both views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct ideas, such as the arguments against cinemas in the second paragraph and the arguments in favour in the third paragraph. However, cohesive devices are sometimes faulty, mechanical, or omitted altogether (e.g., 'while others debate' without a preceding subject, and minor referencing issues). Additionally, basic transitions like 'To conclude' are used, but logical flow is occasionally disrupted by punctuation and spacing errors between sentences. This warrants a Band 6 score for a coherent overall arrangement with mechanical or faulty cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'survillence', 'aura', and 'economically and socially'. However, there are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'poulation', 'cenimas', 'you tube', 'cosumption', 'dont', 'survillence', 'Alghough', and 'to busy' (instead of 'too busy'). These lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'take the feel of music', indicate limitations in control and precision. While communication is not severely impeded, the high frequency of spelling and word-choice mistakes restricts the score to a Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('if you have to justice...') and subordinate clauses ('As there are no retakes...'). However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the response, including missing articles ('in cinema', 'on big screen'), incorrect prepositions ('produced their' instead of 'there'), typographical errors, and a confused structure in the final sentence ('if you have to justice to a drama'). While the intended meaning can generally be understood, the density of grammatical slips and punctuation lapses prevents the writer from achieving a higher band, making Band 5 an accurate reflection of the current control.
