Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that in the contemporary world, people are less interested in theaters and cinema, because people are easily watching all the entertainment they want to watch online. However others believe that traditional cinemas and theaters are still important both economically and culturally. From my perspective both views are important and play a major role in our lives because without going anywhere we can watch any serial, movies and other sources of entertainment. However, people still love to watch movies in a realistic sitting.

On the one hand, online plate form provides a wide range of entertainment sources. People who are busy in their daily routines and have no time to go anywhere with their loved ones and enjoy movies, web series and other entertainments. Digital plate forms are very convenient for them to watch everything online. This is because everything becomes more easier and accessible. For example if we compare our past lives people have enough time to watch them in theaters but nowadays, lives are too busy people are not willing to go anywhere and enjoy those things and also due to heavy traffic they prefer to stay home and enjoy their time with loved ones. As a result, the number of visitors is decreased in Cinemas and theaters.

On the other hand, in the contemporary era, there are still significant numbers of people who are people to begin watching movies in theaters. The main reason is that it helps to give them a break from our busy routines and also impact on our mental well- being.I also believe that cinemas and theaters represent our culture and traditions which play a major role in our economy. For example, if we watch a movie on a big screen with the one whom we love it would be a great experience. We can also create a beautiful and memorable experience with our families that will stay longer.

In conclusion, the way we watch all entertainment might have changed by several factors, such as social platforms and our lifestyles, compared to past decades. Nevertheless, theatres and cinemas still play an important role in our social life and mental well-being.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the decline of traditional cinemas due to online streaming and their ongoing economic and cultural importance. A position is presented, stating that both views are valid, and supported with reasons regarding lifestyle changes, convenience, and mental well-being. However, the reasoning in places is slightly repetitive or contradictory, particularly in the introduction where the student's personal view is slightly confused with the general arguments. For instance, stating 'From my perspective both views are important... because without going anywhere we can watch any serial' leans heavily towards one side rather than balancing both. Nevertheless, the main ideas are extended and supported adequately, placing this securely at Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is arranged into logical paragraphs with an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', helping to structure the overall text. However, paragraphing and referencing sometimes feel mechanical or slightly faulty. For example, the sentence 'However others believe...' lacks proper punctuation, and the transition between sentences within body paragraphs can be abrupt. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen with 'watch them in theaters' where the pronoun antecedent is ambiguous. Overall, the arrangement is coherent with clear overall progression, warranting a Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for an academic discussion, including terms like 'contemporary world', 'convenient', 'mental well-being', and 'social platforms'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'online plate form' instead of 'online platform', 'realistic sitting' instead of 'realistic setting', and 'people to begin watching' instead of 'people who continue watching'. Spelling errors like 'plate form' and 'plate forms' also occur. While the vocabulary is adequate to communicate the central ideas clearly, the frequency of lexical inaccuracies prevents the score from reaching a higher band, placing it at a solid Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, attempting complex clauses with words like 'because', 'although', and relative pronouns. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb forms, article usage, and sentence construction, such as 'people are easily watching' (aspect/tense misuse), 'everything becomes more easier' (double comparative), 'the number of visitors is decreased' (passive voice error), and run-on sentences lacking appropriate punctuation. Although these errors do not severely impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to pull the grammar score down to Band 5.0, as error-free sentences are not in the majority.
