Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student addresses the prompt by discussing both views—the decline of cinemas versus their ongoing economic and cultural importance—and states a personal position in the introduction and conclusion. However, the ideas are underdeveloped and the response falls short of the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, totaling only 211 words. While the arguments regarding social experience, economic growth, and comfort at home are mentioned, they lack detailed expansion and relevant examples. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed due to the under-length nature of the essay and limited development, placing it firmly at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into four paragraphs, reflecting a basic attempt to structure an introductory paragraph, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is weak and transitions between ideas are abrupt. For instance, the transition 'In the contrast' is awkwardly phrased, and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'This thing has both advantages and disadvantages.' Paragraphing is used, but the overall organization lacks smooth cohesion and cohesive devices are frequently mechanical or inaccurate. This indicates a Band 5.0 level for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student displays a limited and repetitive range of vocabulary, which is barely adequate for the task. Words and phrases like 'digital age', 'entertainment', 'economic and culturally', and 'comfort zone' are used, but there are numerous lexical and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'todays', 'threatresvand', 'loved to go', and 'opnion'. Furthermore, collocations are frequently unnatural, such as 'shows watching' instead of 'watching shows'. These errors occasionally impede communication and restrict the score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, missing articles, and subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'group of people believe', 'people going in theatres', and 'different peoples have different opnion as their preferance'. Punctuation is also problematic, with spaces before commas and periods. While some simple sentences are clear, the higher frequency of errors in complex attempts results in a Band 5.0 score.
